At Psalm 140

Tone 4, Podoben “As one valiant among the martyrs…”

If You mark iniquities, Lord, who can stand?* But with You forgiveness is that You may be revered.

You did not reject Christ, divinely wise Artemius,* nor did you sacrifice to idols* but you gave your long-suffering and tortured body to scourging* and the torments of many wounds!* You were patient as though another suffered in your place.* You awaited future rewards and immortal glory!

I have waited for You as You have commanded; my soul patiently relies on Your promise,* for it has trusted in the Lord.

You did not reject Christ, divinely wise Artemius,* nor did you sacrifice to idols* but you gave your long-suffering and tortured body to scourging* and the torments of many wounds!* You were patient as though another suffered in your place.* You awaited future rewards and immortal glory!

From the morning watch until night* let Israel trust in the Lord.

You were suspended from a height and mangled,* broken by stones,* you were burned on all sides by heated irons* and finally beheaded by the sword.* Yet you remained steadfast, glorious one,* for you set the foundation of your soul’s house on the spiritual Rock!* Therefore you are filled with ineffable light through your victories,* joining the angels and the martyrs!

For with the Lord there is mercy, and with Him there is plentiful redemption;* and He shall redeem Israel from all its iniquities.

Praise the Lord, all the nations;* proclaim His glory, all you people.

Your relics, glorious one, ever pour the grace of healing* on those who love you,* drowning passions and infirmities, Artemius,* putting to flight legions of evil demons.* They water the hearts of the faithful,* causing the divine fruits of the virtues to spring forth,* together with the knowledge of true worship!

Strong is the love of the Lord for us;* eternally will His truth endure.

Tone 2, Glory…

Let us honour Artemius,* the spiritual beacon of faith,* for he denounced the evil emperor* and God has robed the church with the purple of his martyr’s blood!* Therefore he has received the abundant grace of healing,* curing the infirmities of those who approach his relics in faith!

Now…

Rejoice, O Mary Theotokos,* the indestructible temple and surpassing holy;* as the prophet cries out:* Holy is Your temple,* wondrous in righteousness.

Aposticha

Tone 4

I wish to wash away the record of my sins with tears, O Lord,* and please You the rest of my life through repentance;* but the enemy deceives me and fights against my soul.* Save me, O Lord, before the end and I utterly perish.

I have lifted up my eyes to You enthroned in heaven. Behold, as the eyes of servants are on the hands of their masters, as the eyes of a maid are on the hands of her mistress, so are our eyes on the Lord our God until He has mercy on us.

Who, among the tempest-tossed, having taking refuge in Your harbour,* will not be saved O Lord?* Or who, that ails and falling down in Your infirmary, will not be healed?* O Maker of all that is, and Physician of the ailing,* save me, O Lord, before the end and I utterly perish

Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us; for we have been filled with shame; our soul is all too full of the mockery of the rich, of the contempt of the proud.

О Lover of mankind,* as One who has accepted the patience of the holy martyrs,* by their prayers, grant us great mercy.

Tone 6, Glory…

You suffered for Christ according to the law, Artemius,* despising both an earthly emperor and the spiritual enemy.* You fittingly received a crown from the Saviour,* the Judge Who determined your contest!* Now you rejoice in the heavens with the ranks of angels,* openly delighting in the fullness of light on high,* partaking abundantly of the one and tri-personal Light!* Therefore, we orthodox believers, loving the martyrs,* cry out with hymns to you:* Rejoice, invincible rock and mighty warrior of Christ!* Rejoice, destroyer of the falsehood of idolatry,* the radiant champion of the truth!* Entreat the Lord that through you we also may receive a place* before the throne of His majesty!

Now…

You were deemed worthy of great gifts, * O pure Virgin Mother of God, * for you gave birth in the flesh to One of the Holy Trinity, * Christ, the Giver of life, * for the salvation of our souls.

Troparia

Tone 4

Your martyr, Artemius, O Lord,* by his passion acquired the crown of incorruptibility from You, our God.* For possessing Your power he overcame the torturers* and shattered the feeble insolence of demons.* By his supplications, save our souls.

Glory… Now…

Let us poor sinners hasten with fervour to the Mother of God;* let us humbly kneel before her and say from the depth of our hearts:* O Lady, be kind to us and help us.* Hasten, for we are perishing under a multitude of sins.* Do not turn away your servants empty-handed,* for you are their only hope and protection.

AT DIVINE LITURGY ON TUESDAY MORNING

Troparia and Kontakia

Troparion, Tone 4: Your martyr, Artemius, O Lord,* by his passion acquired the crown of incorruptibility from You, our God.* For possessing Your power he overcame the torturers* and shattered the feeble insolence of demons.* By his supplications, save our souls.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, now and for ever and ever. Amen.

Kontakion, Tone 2: As a bright and unerring star you appeared to the world* proclaiming with your rays the Sun, that is, Christ, O martyr, Artemius,* and you have extinguished all error.* But to us you give light, praying without ceasing for all of us.
