SUMMARY:Wednesday\, May 20\, 2026\; The Holy Martyr Thaleleus.
DESCRIPTION:AT VESPERS ON TUESDAY EVENING\n\nKathisma Reading\n\nThe appoin
ted psalms are chanted.\n\nAt Psalm 140\n\nTone 4\n\nIf You mark iniquitie
s\, Lord\, who can stand?* But with You forgiveness is that You may be rev
ered.\n\nAs Your divine disciples watched\, You ascended into the heavens\
,* and sit at the right hand of the Father\,* though You were not separate
d from Him\, as the transcendent Son:* and as You promised\, You sent fort
h the Comforter\,* that He might fashion earthly heavens* out of Your wise
and divinely-speaking sacred Apostles.\n\nI have waited for You as You ha
ve commanded\; my soul patiently relies on Your promise\,* for it has trus
ted in the Lord.\n\nO Jesus\, You assumed flesh out of the abundance of Yo
ur inexpressible goodness\;* and You\, O immortal One\, willingly endured
death upon the Cross.* But then\, when three days had passed\, You arose f
rom the dead.* And again\, after forty days\, You ascended to the place\,
from where You had before descended\,* to lead mankind to the Father and t
o bestow peace upon the world.\n\nFrom the morning watch until night* let
Israel trust in the Lord.\n\nAs they saw You taken up upon the clouds O Lo
rd\, the wise Apostles lamented\,* and filled with sorrow\, they cried alo
ud to You with tears:* Leave us not orphaned whom You have loved\;* Rather
\, send down to us as You promised\, O Compassionate One\,* Your Divine an
d Holy Spirit\,* that He might shed His light upon our souls.\n\nTone 4\n\
nFor with the Lord there is mercy\, and with Him there is plentiful redemp
tion\;* and He shall redeem Israel from all its iniquities.\n\nWhen the gr
eat turbulence of the earth laid hold of you\,* and a storm smote your sou
l\, O most glorious one\,* steered by your exalted name as with a rudder*
you traversed unharmed the abyss of greatly painful tortures\;* and having
attained to the harbours of the Most High\,* you were filled with everlas
 ting calm\, O martyr Thalaleus.\n\nPraise the Lord\, all the nations\;* pr
oclaim His glory\, all you people.\n\nLifted up upon a tree\, your side la
cerated by the savagery of the torturers\,* you emulated the suffering of
the Master of creation\, O glorious one\;* and you denounced their erroneo
us thought\,* reviling the falsehood of idolatry and manifestly strengthen
 ing piety\,* O great-martyr Thalaleus.\n\nStrong is the love of the Lord f
or us\;* eternally will His truth endure.\n\nAt the command of the tyrant
you were committed to the depths of the sea\,* yet through divine grace re
mained undrowned\, O all-wise one\;* and with the torrents of your blood*
you drowned the noetic Pharaoh and his army\, O divinely wise one\,* and\,
strengthened greatly by Christ\,* committed him to utter destruction.\n\n
 Tone 5\, Glory… Now…\n\nCome\, O assemblies of the faithful\,* let us
acquire the mind of Christ’s disciples\,* that we may sing an unceasing
hymn upon the Mount of Olives\,* and\, like the Apostles\, let us cry out
with David:* God is gone up in jubilation\,* the Lord with the voice of a
trumpet\,* that He might rescue the kindred of mortal mankind* from the st
umbling-blocks of the wicked one* and enlighten our souls.\n\nProkeimenon\
, Tone 1\n\nYour mercy\, O Lord\, shall follow me* all the days of my life
.\n\nverse: The Lord is my shepherd\, I shall not want. In green pastures
He gives me repose.\n\nAposticha\n\nTone 2\n\nO new and wondrous deed!* Lo
\, mortal human nature ascends to the heavens\;* for it is now made one wi
th the Word\,* who is Almighty God.\n\nClap your hands\, all nations\;* sh
out to God with a voice of rejoicing.\n\nThere has shone forth today the b
right day of the Master’s divine ascent to heaven.* This luminous feast
sheds* its radiance upon all the earth.\n\nGod is gone up in jubilation\,*
the Lord with the voice of the trumpet.\n\nEven as You sent to Your divin
e disciples* Your consubstantial Spirit\, O Christ\,* so send down Your gr
 ace to Your people now.\n\nTone 5\, Glory… Now…\n\nO Lord\, as You wer
e being taken up\,* to where You were not separated\,* the hosts of angels
and all the bodiless ones* cried out rejoicing to the powers above:* Lift
up the gates\, O princes\,* and the King of Glory shall enter therein.* F
or the cherubic throne took You up in the flesh.* O Lord\, glory be to You
 .\n\nTroparia\, Tone 4\n\nYour martyr\, Thaleleus\, O Lord\,* by his passi
on acquired the crown of incorruptibility from You\, our God.* For possess
ing Your power he overcame the torturers* and shattered the feeble insolen
ce of demons.* By his supplications\, save our souls.\n\nGlory… Now…\n
\nYou ascended in glory\, O Christ our God\;* giving joy to Your disciples
by the promise of the Holy Spirit\,* and assuring them through Your bless
ing* that You are the Son of God\,** the Redeemer of the world.\nAT DIVINE
