 \n\nOut of the depths I cry to You\, O Lord\;* O Lord\, hear my voice!\n\n
O Josaphat\, you are worthy of glory. * Your sacred vestment was stained w
ith your martyr’s blood\, * and now you have entered into the Holy of Ho
lies * with the Lord who rejoices for you. * From Him you have received vi
ctory for your labours\, * an eternal crown\, everlasting beauty\, and the
life of Paradise. * O great martyr Josaphat\, * now also pray that He may
grant unity and peace to our Churches * and great mercy to our souls.\n\n
Let Your ears be attentive* to the voice of my prayer.\n\nO Josaphat\, you
are worthy of glory. * Your sacred vestment was stained with your martyr
’s blood\, * and now you have entered into the Holy of Holies * with the
Lord who rejoices for you. * From Him you have received victory for your
labours\, * an eternal crown\, everlasting beauty\, and the life of Paradi
se. * O great martyr Josaphat\, * now also pray that He may grant unity an
d peace to our Churches * and great mercy to our souls.\n\nIf You mark ini
quities\, Lord\, who can stand?* But with You forgiveness is that You may
be revered.\n\nO all-precious orator\, * you first offered yourself as an
unbloody sacrifice to God. * Like the unblemished fruit\, your holy work w
as an acceptable sacrifice. * Then you brought yourself to Christ\, by mea
ns of your blood\, * as a true and great martyr. * Now also pray that He m
ay grant unity and peace to our Churches * and great mercy to our souls.\n
\nI have waited for You as You have commanded\; my soul patiently relies o
n Your promise\,* for it has trusted in the Lord.\n\nO all-precious orator
\, * you first offered yourself as an unbloody sacrifice to God. * Like th
e unblemished fruit\, your holy work was an acceptable sacrifice. * Then y
ou brought yourself to Christ\, by means of your blood\, * as a true and g
reat martyr. * Now also pray that He may grant unity and peace to our Chur
ches * and great mercy to our souls.\n\nFrom the morning watch until night
 * let Israel trust in the Lord.\n\nYou destroyed the vanity of the dissent
ers * by your sanctifying words. * You also strengthened the faith of the
weakened hearts. * You have entered into the eternal life\, * having suffe
red for the cause of unity. * You were a witness to the Lord\, O great mar
tyr Josaphat. * Now also pray that He may grant unity and peace to our Chu
rches * and great mercy to our souls.\n\nFor with the Lord there is mercy\
, and with Him there is plentiful redemption\;* and He shall redeem Israel
from all its iniquities.\n\nYour sacred vestments were stained crimson by
your blood\, O holy one.* So you received from Christ a two-fold crown\,
O generous father.* You also rejoice with the angels in heaven* as you sta
nd in the presence of the Blessed Trinity.* Now also pray that God may gra
nt unity and peace to our Churches* and great mercy to our souls.\n\nPrais
 e the Lord\, all the nations\;* proclaim His glory\, all you people.\n\nO
great martyr Josaphat\,* in chastity you yearned for an honourable life.*
You worshiped Christ the Almighty\,* and you led the people into union wit
h Him* by your precious words and by his grace.* You washed yourself with
the blood of martyrdom\, O blessed one of God.* You have entered into eter
nity.* Now also pray that He may grant unity and peace to our Churches* an
d great mercy to our souls.\n\nStrong is the love of the Lord for us\;* et
ernally will His truth endure.\n\nIn thought you ascended into the unsetti
ng cloud of the ineffable Light.* You\, a great martyr and shepherd\,* kne
w the ineffable mysteries of Christ. * As a martyr you were enlightened\,
 * and as a shepherd you were mystically taught. * Because of that\, you al
so received two crowns from the glory on high. * Now also pray that He may
grant unity and peace to our Churches * and great mercy to our souls.\n\n
In Tone 6\, Glory…\n\nO great martyr Josaphat\, * you were a true priest
until the time of your death. * As a priest you were a minister of the in
effable mysteries of Christ. * You poured out your blood as did Christ our
God\, * presenting yourself as an acceptable sacrifice. * Because of that
\, you are confident in his presence. * Pray for the faith of those who ob
serve and venerate your all-holy memory\, * so that your flock and the who
le world * may be delivered from all dangers\, invasions\, enemies\, and s
ieges.\n\nNow…\n\nWho would not call you blessed\, O Virgin most holy?*
Who would not sing a hymn of praise* to the glory of your giving birth wit
hout pain or travail?* The Only-begotten Son Himself\,* begotten of the Fa
ther before all ages\,* was made flesh out of you in a manner* that cannot
be explained\, O Woman most pure!* And for our sake\, He Who is God by na
ture* assumed the nature of a man.* He is not divided into two persons\;*
He is understood to have two natures* without commixion or confusion.* O n
oble and blessed Woman\,* intercede with Him that He may mercy on our soul
 s.\n\nReadings\n\n(1) Proverbs 3:13–16\; 8:35\, 4–6\, 8–9Blessed is
the man who has found wisdom\, and the mortal who knows prudence. For it i
s better to traffic for her\, than for treasures of gold and silver. And s
he is more valuable than precious stones: no evil thing shall resist her:
she is well known to all that approach her\, and no precious thing is equa
l to her in value. For length of existence and years of life are in her ri
ght hand\; and in her left hand are wealth and glory: out of her mouth pro
ceeds righteousness\, and she carries law and mercy upon her tongue. For m
y outgoings are the outgoings of life\, and in them is prepared favour fro
m the Lord. You\, O men\, I exhort\; and utter my voice to the sons of men
. O ye simple\, understand subtlety\, and ye that are untaught\, imbibe kn
owledge. Hearken to me\; for I will speak solemn truths\; and will produce
right sayings from my lips. All the words of my mouth are in righteousnes
s\; there is nothing in them wrong or perverse. They are all evident to th
ose that understand\, and right to those that find knowledge.\n\n(2) Wisdo
 m 4:7\, 16–20\; 5:1–7But though the righteous be prevented with death\
, yet shall he be in rest.\n\nThus the righteous that is dead shall condem
n the ungodly which are living\; and youth that is soon perfected the many
years and old age of the unrighteous. For they shall see the end of the w
ise\, and shall not understand what God in his counsel hath decreed of him
\, and to what end the Lord hath set him in safety. They shall see him\,
and despise him\; but God shall laugh them to scorn\; and they shall herea
fter be a vile carcase\, and a reproach among the dead for evermore. For h
e shall rend them\, and cast them down headlong\, that they shall be speec
hless\; and he shall shake them from the foundation\; and they shall be ut
terly laid waste\, and be in sorrow\; and their memorial shall perish. And
when they cast up the account of their sins\, they shall come with fear:
and their own iniquities shall convince them to their face.\n\nThen shall
the righteous man stand in great boldness before the face of such as have
afflicted him\, and made no account of his labours. When they see it\, the
y shall be troubled with terrible fear\, and shall be amazed at the strang
eness of his salvation\, so far beyond all that they looked for. And they
repenting and groaning for anguish of spirit shall say within themselves\,
\n\nThis was he\, whom we had sometimes in derision\, and a proverb of rep
roach: we fools accounted his life madness\, and his end to be without ho
nour: how is he numbered among the children of God\, and his lot is among
the saints! Therefore have we erred from the way of truth\, and the light
of righteousness hath not shined unto us\, and the sun of righteousness r
ose not upon us. We wearied ourselves in the way of wickedness and destru
ction: yea\, we have gone through deserts\, where there lay no way: but as
for the way of the Lord\, we have not known it.\n\n(3) Wisdom 5:15–6:3B
ut the righteous live for evermore\; their reward also is with the Lord\,
and the care of them is with the most High. Therefore shall they receive a
glorious kingdom\, and a beautiful crown from the Lord's hand: for with h
is right hand shall he cover them\, and with his arm shall he protect them
.\n\nHe shall take to him his jealousy for complete armour\, and make the
creature his weapon for the revenge of his enemies. He shall put on righte
ousness as a breastplate\, and true judgment instead of an helmet. He shal
l take holiness for an invincible shield. His severe wrath shall he sharpe
n for a sword\, and the world shall fight with him against the unwise.\n\n
Then shall the right aiming thunderbolts go abroad\; and from the clouds\,
as from a well drawn bow\, shall they fly to the mark. And hailstones ful
l of wrath shall be cast as out of a stone bow\, and the water of the sea
shall rage against them\, and the floods shall cruelly drown them.\n\nYea\
, a mighty wind shall stand up against them\, and like a storm shall blow
them away: thus iniquity shall lay waste the whole earth\, and ill dealing
shall overthrow the thrones of the mighty. Hear therefore\, O ye kings\,
and understand\; learn\, ye that be judges of the ends of the earth. Give
ear\, ye that rule the people\, and glory in the multitude of nations. For
power is given you of the Lord\, and sovereignty from the Highest\, who s
hall try your works\, and search out your counsels.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nLitiya\n
\nIn Tone 1\n\nCome\, let us all celebrate in spirit with heavenly priestl
y words* the memory of the great martyr Josaphat.* Because he cleared the
thorns of division* and with abundant virtue through the fruit of the sanc
tuary\,* he planted the teachings of salvation* for our souls.\n\nAs a pri
est you acted according to the divine gospel.* You sealed the divine teach
ings with your blood* at the hands of the flock in disunity\, O great mart
yr Josaphat.* You dried up the river of demons\,* and you went up into hea
ven* as a conqueror receiving the crown of victory.\n\nO great martyr Josa

\, O great martyr Josaphat. * She faithfully venerates you. * As a shepher
d do not cease to bless her. * Pray for the salvation of all.\n\nNow…\n\
nO most pure Virgin\,* you are the temple\, the gate\, the palace\, and th
e throne of the king. * Christ\, our Redeemer and Lord\, * appeared throug
h you to those who slumbered in darkness. * For He\, as the Sun of Righteo
usness\, * wished to enlighten those whom He created with his own hands *
according to his own image. * Therefore\, O Lady\, whom we always praise I
n song\, * we beseech you to intercede with Christ for the salvation of ou
r souls\, * for as his mother you can approach Him with the greatest confi
dence.\n\nAposticha\n\nIn Tone 4\n\nLike a very bright sun * you shone upo
n the firmament of the Church. * By the splendour of your words\, by your
God-inspired teaching\, * and by your life equal to that of an angel\, * y
ou enlightened the souls that were darkened by the wickedness of the enemy
. * You led back onto the way of truth those who had strayed. * Because of
that\, we rejoice today * and observe your light-bearing and holy memory.
\n\nYour priests shall be clothed with holiness\; your faithful shall ring
out their joy.\n\nO great martyr Josaphat\,* you were equal in honour to
the apostles.* You received an understanding like theirs.* You did not fea
r the cruelty of malicious torturers\,* but manfully and courageously you
preached the unity of the faith.* You suffered many varied wounds and torm
ents.* And now you have received a great reward for your long-suffering* f
rom the Source and Judge of victory\, Christ our God.* Implore Him for all
who in faith venerate your holy memory.\n\nPrecious in the eyes of the Lo
rd Is the death of his faithful.\n\nO great martyr Josaphat\,* offering up
precious service and a spotless sacrifice to the Master\, Christ our God\
,* you offered yourself as a perfect holocaust to Him.* You courageously s
uffered out of love for Him by spilling your blood.* As a true shepherd an
d follower of Christ\,* you did not cease to cry out:* O Father\, protect
everyone in your name.* All-blessed Josaphat\, now pray that the Churches
and all people be reunited* and that we may be saved.\n\nGlory…\n\nYour
good deeds are radiant like the sun upon heaven and earth\, * O conciliato
r of Christ\, all-blessed great martyr Josaphat. * You rightly preached to
us the true and spotless faith of Christ. * For this\, as a good shepherd
\, you also laid down your life\, * following the wellspring of shepherds\
 , Christ our God. * O all-blessed sanctifier\, O God-bearer\, * Implore th
at all may be saved * who lovingly celebrate the precious memory of your s
ufferings.\n\nNow…\n\nO most pure Virgin\, hear the petitions of your se
rvants. * Remove the burdens which oppress us * and deliver us from our so
rrows\; * for you are the only firm and constant support on whom we rely.
 * O Mother of God\, never permit us who call upon you * to be overwhelmed
by our cares. * Hasten to fulfil the supplications of all who\, in faith\,
  cry out to you: * Rejoice\, O Lady\, helper of all mankind\, * the joy\,
the refuge\, and the salvation of our souls.\n\nTroparia\n\nIn Tone 4\n\nY
ou appeared as a radiant light\,* O priest-martyr Josaphat.* Like the Good
Shepherd\, you lay down your life for your sheep\;* killed by enemies who
loved division\, you entered the holy of holies to dwell with the bodiles
s powers.* Therefore we pray you\, long-suffering saint:* beg Christ\, the
Prince of Shepherds\,** to number us among the sheep at His right hand an
 d to save our souls. (twice) \n\nIn Tone 4\n\nRejoice\, O Theotokos\,* Vir

unknown even to the angels\,* was revealed through you to those on earth:*
God took on our human nature* and united it to His divine nature in a per
