SUMMARY:Thursday\, July 9\, 2026\; The Holy Hieromartyr Pancratius\, Bishop
  of Tauromenia
DESCRIPTION:VESPERS ON WEDNESDAY EVENING\n\nKathisma Reading\n\nThe appoint
ed psalms are chanted.\n\nAt Psalm 140\n\nTone 5\n\nIf You mark iniquities
\, Lord\, who can stand?* But with You forgiveness is that You may be reve
red.\n\nTraversing all the earth\, you sowed divine teachings\,* bearing t
he Word alone as a lamp and all riches\, О disciples of the Lord\;* and t
hereby you put emperors and torturers to shame\,* and rent asunder the vai
n arguments of the philosophers and rhetors as though they were spiders’
webs\,* calling all to recognize the Creator\,* and abolishing the vain w
orship of demons.* Wherefore\, I pray that\, by your prayers\,* you delive
r me from those who are irrational.\n\nI have waited for You as You have c
ommanded\; my soul patiently relies on Your promise\,* for it has trusted
in the Lord.\n\nBy your supplications to God\, deliver us all from the tur
moil of temptations\,* the cruel deception of shameful heresies\, the evil
counsel of the demons\,* the fire which burns in the absence of light\,*
the everlasting worm\, the gnashing of teeth\, and all other torments\;* a
nd beseech Him that\, for the sake of your temperance and toils\,* we may
receive the reward of the virtues\,* the inheritance of the kingdom of hea
ven\, and great mercy.\n\nFrom the morning watch until night* let Israel t
rust in the Lord.\n\nClearly receiving all the effulgence\,* and the refle
cted light of the ineffable dispensation of the Trinity\,* insofar as huma
n nature can so do\,* the all-praised twelve perfectly manifested themselv
es\, bringing with them the seventy-two\,* and enlightening the ends of th
e world\, darkened by the darkness of wicked heresy\,* pray to Christ that
He grant the world great mercy.\n\nTone 2\, Podoben “When from the Tree
…”\n\nFor with the Lord there is mercy\, and with Him there is plentif
ul redemption\;* and He shall redeem Israel from all its iniquities.\n\nWh
en the pre-eminent among the disciples\, going about\, confirmed the whole
world\,* he found you to be like a precious stone\,* and as a foundation
of the Church\, O blessed one\,* did he set you who cast down the pillars
and temples of idolatry* by the divine power of the Word* whose good pleas
ure it was to consort with men in the flesh.\n\nPraise the Lord\, all the
nations\;* proclaim His glory\, all you people.\n\nDispelling the evil spi
rits of malice by the Word\,* you made people spiritual by the grace of th
 e Spirit\, O martyr Pancratius\,* working the field of their hearts\, and
casting the divine seed thereupon\,* the fruits of which you have offered
to the heavenly Husbandman\,* praying for them that praise you with faith.
\n\nStrong is the love of the Lord for us\;* eternally will His truth endu
re.\n\nWith noetic splendours you made the West like to the East\,* bearin
g the sun of the knowledge of God* who shone forth upon us from the Virgin
in manner past understanding\;* and having set in your suffering\, O fath
er\,* you shone forth to the never-setting Light\,* where\, the looking gl
ass being abolished\,* you behold the longed-for beauty of the Judge of yo
 ur contest\, O Pancratius.\n\nTone 2\, Glory… Now…\n\nIn your womb you
\, without confining Him\, bore God who alone is infinite* and who became
man in His goodness\, O all-holy Bride of God.* Therefore\, I entreat you:
rescue me from the passions which hem me in\,* that\, having trod the str
aight and narrow path\,* I may attain to that which leads to life\, O Virg
in.\n\nProkeimenon\, Tone 5\n\nO Lord\, save me by Your name\,* and in You
r power be a judge for me.\n\nverse: O God\, hear my prayer\; listen to th
e words of my mouth.\n\nAposticha\n\nTone 5\n\nAs eyewitnesses to the myst
eries of the Saviour\, О disciples\,* you preached the Invisible One who
has no beginning\, saying:* In the beginning was the Word.* You were not c
reated before the angels\, nor were you taught of men\,* but by the wisdom
of the Most High.* Wherefore\, as you have boldness\, pray on behalf of o
ur souls.\n\nI have lifted up my eyes to You enthroned in heaven. Behold\,
as the eyes of servants are on the hands of their masters\, as the eyes o
f a maid are on the hands of her mistress\, so are our eyes on the Lord ou
r God until He has mercy on us.\n\nTogether let us praise the apostles of
the Lord with hymns\,* for\, having arrayed themselves in the armour of th
e Cross\,* they abolished the delusion of the demons* and were revealed to
be crowned victors.* By the supplications of them and all the saints\, О
  God\, have mercy on us.\n\nHave mercy on us\, O Lord\, have mercy on us\;
for we have been filled with shame\; our soul is all too full of the mock
ery of the rich\, of the contempt of the proud.\n\nYour souls filled with
insatiable love\, О holy martyrs\,*you did not deny Christ\;* and endurin
g the diverse wounds of sufferings\,* you cast down the audacity of the to
rmentors\;* and having preserved the Faith intact and unharmed\,* you were
translated to the heavens.* Wherefore\, as you have boldness before Him\,
ask that He grant us great mercy.\n\nGlory… Now…\n\nWe bless you\, O
Virgin Theotokos\,* and we\, the faithful\, glorify you as is meet\, O una
ssailable city\,* impregnable rampart\, and steadfast intercession and ref
uge of our souls.\n\nTroparia\n\nTone 4\n\nHaving shared the way of life o
f the apostles\,* and having become a successor to their thrones\,* labour
ing you found the divinely inspired way to contemplation.* Therefore\, for
thrightly ministering the word of truth\,* you shed your blood for the fai
th\, O hieromartyr\, Pancratius.* Intercede with Christ our God for the sa
lvation of our souls.\n\nGlory… Now…\n\nO Virgin Mother of God\,* we a
cknowledge that the Word of the Father\, Christ our God\,* was incarnate o
f you\, the only pure one and the only blessed one.* Therefore\, we sing t
o you a hymn of praise and we exalt you.\n\nAT DIVINE LITURGY ON THURSDAY
