At Psalm 140

Tone 1, Podoben “O most praised martyrs…”

If You mark iniquities, Lord, who can stand?* But with You forgiveness is that You may be revered.

The Holy Spirit who proceeds from the Father,* spoke through your tongue of the advent of Christ* which would come to pass in later times to the restoration of creation:* And now, beholding the fulfilment of what was prophesied,* we honour your memory, O prophet.

I have waited for You as You have commanded; my soul patiently relies on Your promise,* for it has trusted in the Lord.

Espousing our nature, which had wilfully fallen away from You, O You who loves mankind,* You delivered it from defilement, joining it inseparably to Yourself* through union with You which passes understanding.* And Your prophet, being an image of this,* chastely took a former harlot as a wife.

From the morning watch until night* let Israel trust in the Lord.

O divinely eloquent prophet, seeing your utterances now filled with grace,* standing before the God of all* pray for all who with faith celebrate your memory,* asking for them forgiveness of sins,* peace, and great mercy.

Tone 4, Podoben “As one mighty among the martyrs…”

For with the Lord there is mercy, and with Him there is plentiful redemption;* and He shall redeem Israel from all its iniquities.

Having cleaved to the Lord from childhood, O blessed one,* you ran the course until the end;* for, armed with the Cross, you set your hands* to the plough of the commandments of the Lord, as it is written.* Entreat Him that those who with faith celebrate your most honoured memory* be delivered from corruption and misfortunes.

Praise the Lord, all the nations;* proclaim His glory, all you people.

Through faith you became an all-precious stone without being broken;* for, beaten and rolled upon the ground, you made smooth the path of faith, O glorious one,* rendering it easy of ascent;* and you overturned the opinions and the evil fame of Copronymus* like a corrupt foundation, O father.

Strong is the love of the Lord for us;* eternally will His truth endure.

Raised the dogmas of the apostles and the teachings of the divine fathers, O blessed one,* you venerated the visible image of the incarnate God in sacred signs and honoured depictions.* Therefore, having suffered for them, O glorious one,* you were shown to be a teacher of piety* and the adornment of martyrs.

Tone 4, Glory… Now…

As she beheld You , the Lamb and Shepherd, upon the Tree,* the ewe-lamb who gave You birth lamented and cried out to Thee maternally:* O longsuffering Son most desired,* how is it that You are suspended upon the tree of the Cross?* How is it that Your hands and feet, O Word,* have been pierced with nails by the iniquitous?* How is it that You have shed Your blood, O Master?

Prokeimenon, Tone 6

My help is from the Lord,* Who made heaven and earth.

verse: I lifted up my eyes to the mountains, from where my help shall come.

Aposticha

Tone1

The Cross was set up on Golgotha,* and blossomed forth immortality for us from the ever-flowing fountain* of the Saviour’s side.

I have lifted up my eyes to You enthroned in heaven. Behold, as the eyes of servants are on the hands of their masters, as the eyes of a maid are on the hands of her mistress, so are our eyes on the Lord our God until He has mercy on us.

The precious Cross of the Saviour is for us an indestructible rampart;* for, placing our trust in it, we all are saved.

Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us; for we have been filled with shame; our soul is all too full of the mockery of the rich, of the contempt of the proud.

By the supplications of all the saints and the Theotokos, О Lord,* grant us peace, and have mercy upon us,* in that You alone are compassionate.

Glory… Now…

Upon beholding Your unjust slaying, O Christ,* the Virgin, cried out to You, weeping:* “O my sweetest Child! How is it that You die unjustly?* How is it that You who has suspended the whole earth upon the waters* hangs upon the Tree?* Leave me not alone who am Your Mother and handmaiden,* I pray, O greatly merciful Benefactor!”

Troparia

Tone 2

Celebrating the memory of your prophet Hosea, O Lord,* we beg You to save our souls through his intercession.

Tone 4, Glory…

On the mountain you reached the summit by fasting.* You destroyed the protection of foe by the arms of the cross.* You robed yourself bravely in martyrdom,* cutting Copronymus down with the sword of faith.* This is why God crowned you, O memorable Andrew,* O venerable and truly blessed martyr.

Now…

O Virgin, all immaculate Mother of Christ God,* a sword pierced your all-holy soul* when you saw your Son and God willingly crucified.* Therefore, O blessed One,* never cease to pray to Him* that He may grant us forgiveness of our sins.
