Post-feast of the Transfiguration. Dormition Fast.
VESPERS ON SUNDAY EVENING
Kathisma Reading
There are no psalms appointed to be chanted tonight.
At Psalm 140
Tone 1, Podoben “Joy of the ranks of heavens…”
If You mark iniquities, Lord, who can stand?* But with You forgiveness is that You may be revered.
He who of old spoke with Moses on Mount Sinai* in images, saying: “I am God who am!”* today, transfigured on Mount Tabor,* shows forth the Prototype, shining with rays of splendour.* Wherefore, O Christ, I magnify Your power!
I have waited for You as You have commanded; my soul patiently relies on Your promise,* for it has trusted in the Lord.
Taking with You Your favourite disciples, O Christ, Peter, James and John,* You willingly led them up to the mountain,* showing them an awesome wonder:* the everlasting and unbearable magnificence* of Your divine arrival from afar.
From the morning watch until night* let Israel trust in the Lord.
The apostles of old, trembling at Your unapproachable advent, O Christ,* falling prostrate on the ground,* marvelled at the power of Your divinity,* which shone forth more brightly than the sun, O Good One,* with Your ineffable might.
Tone 1, Podoben “You have given a sign…”
For with the Lord there is mercy, and with Him there is plentiful redemption;* and He shall redeem Israel from all its iniquities.
You traversed well the abyss of suffering,* your sail filled with the breath of the Spirit;* and you made your way to the calm haven of the kingdom of God,* wherein you have received rich reward for your pangs,* and stand with the angels before the Master of creation,* O blessed one.
Praise the Lord, all the nations;* proclaim His glory, all you people.
Clad in a purple robe dyed in thy blood, O glorious one,* and crowned with the wreath of victory by the hand of the Creator of life,* you dwell in the heavens, reigning with the most Compassionate One.* Wherefore, we call you blessed, as a true martyr* and a servant of the Word,* the confirmation of the Faith.
Strong is the love of the Lord for us;* eternally will His truth endure.
As a minister of the mysteries of the Master,* the wondrous Euplus brought himself forth like an innocent lamb;* and, beheaded with the sword, he became a divine lamb,* a sacrifice of sweet savour.* We, therefore, call him blessed, celebrating today, in sacred manner, his hallowed suffering,* O you who love the martyrs.
Tone 1, Glory… Now…
The mountain which before was dark and gloomy is now honourable and holy,* for thereon did Your feet stand, O Lord;* for in the latter days You made manifest the hidden, pre-eternal mystery,* Your awesome transfiguration, to Peter, John, and James.* But they, unable to endure the radiance of Your countenance and the brightness of Your raiment,* fell prostrate on the ground and covered themselves.* And, seized with terror, they marvelled,* beholding Moses and Elijah conversing with You as they stood with You;* and the voice of the Father bore witness, saying:* “This is My beloved Son in whom I am well pleased:* Obey Him!* He will grant the world great mercy!”
Prokeimenon, Tone 8
And now bless the Lord,* all you servants of the Lord.
verse: Who stand in the temple of the Lord, in the courtyards of the house of our God.
Aposticha
Tone 2, Podoben “O house of Ephratha…”
Desiring to transform the nature of Adam,* Christ now ascends Mount Tabor,* revealing His divinity to the disciples.
Yours are the heavens,* and Yours is the earth.
The thrice-radiant light of Your divine glory* shone forth ineffably on Mount Tabor, O Saviour,* and has illumined all things.
Tabor and Hermon* shall rejoice in Your name.
The disciples, beholding the transformation of Your garments* and of Thy whole body, O Word,* fell prostrate, chanting.
Tone 4, Glory… Now…
Transfigured on the high mountain,* the Saviour, having with Him His preeminent disciples,* shone forth most wondrously,* showing them forth as illumined by the loftiness of the virtues* and as ones vouchsafed divine glory.* Moses and Elijah, who spoke with Christ,* showed that He has authority over the living and the dead,* and that He is the God who of old spoke through the law and the prophets.* Of Him was the voice of the Father heard saying from the cloud of light:* “Obey Him, who through the Cross made hell captive* and grants life everlasting to the dead!”
Troparia
Tone 4
Your holy martyr Euplus, O Lord,* through his sufferings has received an incorruptible crown from You, our God.* For having Your strength, he laid low his adversaries,* and shattered the powerless boldness of demons.* Through his intercessions, save our souls!
Tone 7, Glory… Now…
You were transfigured on the mount, O Christ God,* showing Your glory to Your disciples as much as they could bear.* Make Your eternal light shine* also on us who are sinners,* through the prayers of the Mother of God* O Giver of Light, glory to You!
DIVINE LITURGY ON MONDAY MORNING
Antiphon 1
Shout to the Lord, all the earth, sing now to His name, give glory to His praise.
Through the prayers of the Mother of God, O Saviour, save us.
The voice of Your thunder was in the whirlwind; Your lightning lit up the world.
Through the prayers of the Mother of God, O Saviour, save us.
You have clothed Yourself in praise and splendour; You robe Yourself in light as with a cloak.
Through the prayers of the Mother of God, O Saviour, save us.
Glory… Now… Only-begotten Son…
Antiphon 3
Come, let us sing joyfully to the Lord, let us acclaim God, our Saviour.
Son of God, transfigured on the mount, save us who sing to You: Alleluia.
Let us come before His face with praise, and acclaim Him in psalms.
Son of God, transfigured on the mount, save us who sing to You: Alleluia.
For God is the great Lord, and the great king over all the earth.
Son of God, transfigured on the mount, save us who sing to You: Alleluia.
Entrance
Come, let us worship and fall down before Christ.

Troparia and Kontakia
Troparion, Tone 7: You were transfigured on the mount, O Christ God,* showing Your glory to Your disciples as much as they could bear.* Make Your eternal light shine* also on us who are sinners,* through the prayers of the Mother of God,* O Giver of Light, glory to You!
Troparion, Tone 4: Your martyr, Euplus, O Lord,* by his passion acquired the crown of incorruptibility from You, our God.* For possessing Your power he overcame the torturers* and shattered the feeble insolence of demons.* By his supplications, save our souls.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.
Kontakion, Tone 2: As a bright and unerring star you appeared to the world* proclaiming with your rays the Sun, that is, Christ, O martyr, Euplus,* and you have extinguished all error.* But to us you give light, praying without ceasing for all of us.
Now and for ever and ever. Amen.
Kontakion, Tone 7: You were transfigured on the mount, O Christ God,* and Your disciples saw Your glory as much as they could;* that when they saw You crucified* they might know that You suffered willingly*, and might proclaim to the world* that You are truly the brightness of the Father.
