VESPERS ON MONDAY EVENING
Kathisma Reading
The appointed psalms are chanted.
At Psalm 140
Tone 6, Podoben “For the wretchedness of life…”
If You mark iniquities, Lord, who can stand?* But with You forgiveness is that You may be revered.
Who does not weep for me, who in intemperance have broken the commandment of the Most High?* I have come to dwell in Hades instead of paradise* through the sight of the sweet food which brought about death,* and because of it I have become a stranger to life and the glory of God.* Yet accept me the penitent, О Lord, for the sake of Your great mercy,* in that You are merciful and the Lover of mankind.
I have waited for You as You have commanded; my soul patiently relies on Your promise,* for it has trusted in the Lord.
Behold my sorrow and pain,* and the countless multitude of my transgressions,* the affliction of my soul and the delusion of my mind.* Attend to the cry of one who is accursed and condemned, О Lord,* and grant me a contrite spirit and a humble heart;* and in Your great mercy give me a wellspring of tears* and forgiveness for my many transgressions.
From the morning watch until night* let Israel trust in the Lord.
О God, who desires that all should be saved:* Look down and hearken to my supplication, and reject not my tears as shed in vain.* For who having come to You weeping has not been saved straightway?* Who having cried out fervently to Youhas not been hearkened to straightway?* О Master, be quick to save all who entreat You,* for You are invincible in mercy.
Tone 8, Podoben O all-glorious wonder…”
For with the Lord there is mercy, and with Him there is plentiful redemption;* and He shall redeem Israel from all its iniquities.
Godly minded martyr Callinicus,* you devoutly preferred death above life:* you revealed a faithful image of the death of Christ!* Therefore you obtained immortality and unending joy!* You have made your dwelling with the ranks of angels, glorious one,* where all the champions rejoice!
Praise the Lord, all the nations;* proclaim His glory, all you people.
All-blessed martyr Callinicus, you obtained the unseen Lord* as an invincible ally against unseen enemies!* You raised up great trophies of immortality!* By the first of your contests you overthrew him* who boasts that he would blot out the earth and the sea.* You drowned him in the streams of your blood!
Strong is the love of the Lord for us;* eternally will His truth endure.
Let us honour Callinicus in hymns today!* He is the foremost fighter for piety;* a destroyer of the enemy, the constant companion of the martyrs!* He is a temple of the Holy Spirit who became a soldier of Christ the King!* He is truly the inexhaustible treasury of healings,* and the wonderful support of the faithful!
Tone 6, Glory… Now…
О most holy Virgin, show forth upon me, the wretched one,* the depths of your love for mankind,* the abyss of your tender compassion, and the countless compassions of thy goodness.* Mow down the stubble of sin, granting me chastity,* and preserve my body and soul undefiled,* О you who have given birth to the Saviour.
Prokeimenon, Tone 4
The Lord hears me* when I cry out to Him.
verse: Whenever I called, the God of my justice heard me.
Aposticha
Tone 6
At Your fearful Coming, O Christ, may we not hear the words: I know you not.* For though, O Saviour, we have put our trust in You,* from negligence we have not kept not Your commandments;* yet we entreat You, spare our souls.
I have lifted up my eyes to You enthroned in heaven. Behold, as the eyes of servants are on the hands of their masters, as the eyes of a maid are on the hands of her mistress, so are our eyes on the Lord our God until He has mercy on us.
I have no repentance and I have no tears.* Wherefore I entreat You, O Christ God:* before the end is here turn me back and grant me compunction,* that I may be delivered from the torments of Hades.
Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us; for we have been filled with shame; our soul is all too full of the mockery of the rich, of the contempt of the proud.
О martyred passion-bearers,* citizens of heaven, who suffered on the earth,* you endured many torments.* By their supplications and entreaty, О Lord, preserve us all.
Glory… Now…
No one that flees to you, O most pure Virgin Theotokos,* departs from you ashamed;* for those that ask grace of you,* ever receives a gift for their profitable petition.
Troparia
Tone 4
Your holy martyr Callinicus, O Lord, through his sufferings* has received an incorruptible crown from You, our God!* For having Your strength, he laid low his adversaries,* and shattered the powerless boldness of demons.** Through his intercessions, save our souls!
Glory… Now…
Let us poor sinners hasten with fervour to the Mother of God;* let us humbly kneel before her and say from the depth of our hearts:* O Lady, be kind to us and help us.* Hasten, for we are perishing under a multitude of sins.* Do not turn away your servants empty-handed,* for you are their only hope and protection.

Troparion, Tone 4: Your martyr, Callinicus, O Lord,* by his passion acquired the crown of incorruptibility from You, our God.* For possessing Your power he overcame the torturers* and shattered the feeble insolence of demons.* By his supplications, save our souls.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, now and for ever and ever. Amen.
