\n\nTone 6 \n\nLead my soul forth from prison* that I may give thanks t
o Your name. \n\nO Christ\, You won the victory over Hades\,* You ascend
ed the cross so that You might raise up with Yourself* all those who dwel
t in the darkness of death.* Almighty Saviour\, You are free from death*
and bestow life by Your divine light.* We\, therefore\, beseech You to h
ave mercy on us. \n\nThe just shall gather around me* when You have been
good to me. \n\nToday Christ has conquered Death.* He has risen from th
e grave as He had foretold\,* bestowing great joy upon the world.* The
refore\, let us all lift up our voices and sing:* O Fount of Life\, O Li
ght whom no one can approach\,* Almighty Saviour\, have mercy on us. \n
 \nOut of the depths I cry to You\, O Lord\;* O Lord\, hear my voice! \n
\nO Lord\, where can we sinners flee from You\,* for You are present in
all creation?* You are present in heaven\, for it is Your dwelling plac
e.* Your power prevails in Hades where You conquered Death.* O Master\,
Your sustaining hand touches even the depths of the sea.* Where\, then\
, can we take refuge except in You?* We\, therefore\, prostrate ourselve
s before You and pray:* O Lord\, risen from the dead\, have mercy on us.
\n\nLet Your ears be attentive* to the voice of my prayer. \n\nWe exult
in Your cross\, O Christ\,* and we sing the glory of Your resurrection
.* For You are our God\, and we have no other Lord but You. \n\nIf You m

at You may be revered. \n\nGlory to Your might\, O Lord\,* for You ha
ve conquered the power of death.* You have renewed us through Your cros
s\,* granting us life and incorruption. \n\nI have waited for You as Yo
u have commanded\; my soul patiently relies on Your promise\,* for it ha
s trusted in the Lord. \n\nWe forever bless the Lord and praise His resu

is death. \n\nTone 4\, Podoben “As valiant among the martyrs…” \
n\nFrom the morning watch until night* let Israel trust in the Lord. \n\n
O Michael\, supreme commander\,* shown forth as a most radiant intercess
or before the three-Sunned Godhead\,* you cry out\, rejoicing with the h
 eavenly hosts:* Holy are You\, O Father!* Holy are You\, O co-unorigin
ate Son!* Holy are You also\, O Holy Spirit!* One glory\, one Kingdom
and nature\,* one Godhead and power! \n\nFor with the Lord there is mer
cy\, and with Him there is plentiful redemption\;* and He shall redeem I
srael from all its iniquities. \n\nO Michael\, supreme commander\,* sho
wn forth as a most radiant intercessor before the three-Sunned Godhead\,*
you cry out\, rejoicing with the heavenly hosts:* Holy are You\, O Fa
ther!* Holy are You\, O co-unoriginate Son!* Holy are You also\, O Holy
Spirit!* One glory\, one Kingdom and nature\,* one Godhead and power!
\n\nPraise the Lord\, all the nations\;* proclaim His glory\, all you
 people. \n\nYour aspect is fiery\, and your beauty wondrous\, O Michael\,
first among angels\,* for in your immaterial nature you transcend the e
nds of the earth\,* fulfilling the commandments of the Creator of all\,
 * known in the power of your might\, making your church a wellspring of
healings\,* revered in your holy name. \n\nStrong is the love of the L
ord for us\;* eternally will His truth endure. \n\nO You who\, as it is
written\, make Your angels spirits and Your ministers a flame of fire:*
amid the ranks of Your archangels\, O Lord\,* You have shown forth as
preeminent Michael\, the supreme commander\,* who obeys Your behest\, O
Word\,* and with fear utters the thrice-holy hymn to Your glory. \n\nT
 one 6\, Glory…  \n\nRejoice with us\, all you angelic legions\,* f
or the great supreme commander\, your superior and our intercessor\,* ap
pearing most wondrously this day in his honoured temple\, sanctifies it.*
Therefore\, chanting as is meet\, let us cry aloud to him:* Cover us w
ith the shelter of your wings\, O Michael\, greatest of the archangels! \
n\nNow… \n\nWho would not call you blessed\, O Virgin most holy?* Who
would not sing a hymn of praise* to the glory of your giving birth withou
t pain or travail?* The Only-begotten Son Himself\,* begotten of the Fat
her before all ages\,* was made flesh out of you in a manner* that canno
t be explained\, O Woman most pure!* And for our sake\, He who is God by
nature* assumed the nature of a man.* He is not divided into two persons
\;* He is understood to have two natures* without commixion or confusi
on.* O noble and blessed Woman\,* intercede with Him that He may have me
 rcy on our souls. \n\nAposticha \n\nTone 6 \n\nO Christ our Saviour\,*
the angels in heaven sing the praises of Your resurrection\;* make us
on earth also worthy* to extol and glorify You with a pure heart. \n\nTh
e Lord reigns\, He is clothed in majesty. Robed is the Lord\, and girt a
bout with strength. \n\nAlmighty God\, You destroyed the brazen gates a
nd bars of Hades\,* and raised up fallen mankind.* Therefore\, with on
e accord\, we cry out:* O Lord\, risen from the dead\, glory to You! \n
\nFor He has made the world firm\, which shall not be moved. \n\nChrist w
illed to renew us from our corruption of old* by being nailed to a cross
and placed in a tomb.* When the women came to anoint His body they tearfu
lly cried out:* O\, what sorrow afflicts us!* O Saviour of All\, how cou
ld You consent to occupy a grave?* If you truly willed this\, then why di
d You allow Your body to be stolen?* How were You removed?* What place n
ow conceals Your life-bearing body?* O Lord\, appear to us as You promise
d* and put an end to our tears.* As they were lamenting\, an angel appea
red and cried out to them:* Do not weep\, but tell the apostles that the
Lord is risen\,* granting sanctification and great mercy to the world. \
 n\nHoliness befits Your house\, O Lord\, for length of days. \n\nO Christ
\, You were crucified of Your own free will\,* and by Your burial You
imprisoned Death.* As God\, You rose in glory on the third day\,* gr
anting life and great mercy to the world. \n\nTone 8\, Glory…  \n\nO
 supreme commander\, as general\, champion\, and chief of the angels\,* f
rom all want and grief\, from afflictions and grievous sins* free them tha
t hymn and beseech you with faith\, O glorious one\,* for you are manife
stly immaterial\, beholding the Immaterial One\,* illumined with the una
pproachable light of the Master's glory.* For in His love for mankind He
took flesh of the Virgin for our sake\,* wishing to save the human race
 . \n\nNow… \n\nO Virgin\, You have never known wedlock\,* Yet You
conceived God in the flesh* in a manner which words can never describe.*
You thus became the Mother of God on high.* O Immaculate Lady\, rece
ive the supplication of your servants* and grant us the cleansing of our
sins.* Accept now our prayers and beseech God to save all of us. \n\nT
roparia \n\nTone 6 \n\nAngelic powers were upon Your tomb* and the guard
s became like dead men\;* Mary stood before Your tomb* seeking Your most p
ure body.* You captured Hades without being overcome by it.* You met the V
irgin and granted life.* O Lord\, risen from the dead\,* glory be to You!
  \n\nTone 4\, Glory...  \n\nPrinces of the heavenly hosts\,* we\, th

lter of the wings of your spiritual glory.* Guard us as we come to you a
nd sincerely cry:* “Deliver us from dangers\,* O princes of the powe
rs on high!” \n\nNow... \n\nO Mother of God\, the mystery hidden from
all eternity* and unknown even to the angels\,* was revealed through you
to those on earth:* God took on our human nature* and united it to His
divine nature in a perfect but unconfused union.* Then\, He willingly ac
cepted the cross for our sake* and thereby raised again the first created
\,* and saved our souls from death. \n\nGREAT MATINS ON SUNDAY MORNING

arching on foot in the sea as on the dry land\,* saw Pharaoh the pursuer
overthrown in the deep\,* and raised a triumphant shout:* Let us sing
to God a hymn of victory. \n\nGlory to your holy Resurrection\, O Lord.
\n\nO Good Jesus\, with your arms stretched wide upon the cross\, you ha
ve fulfilled in all things the Father’s good pleasure\; therefore let
us all sing to you a hymn of victory. \n\nGlory to your holy Resurrection
\, O Lord. \n\nDeath\, the end of life\, as a slave under orders\, in fea
r approaches you\, the Lord of life\, whereby you award to us life without
end and resurrection. \n\nGlory… Now… \n\nPure one\, who beyond und

less womb\, you are declared to be in truth creation’s sovereign Lady.
 \n\nOde 3 \n\nIrmos: None is holy but you\, O Lord my God\,* the one w
ho is the Good\;* you have exalted the horn of your faithful people\,*
and founded them on the rock of their confession of you. \n\nGlory to y
our holy Resurrection\, O Lord. \n\nCreation\, seeing God crucified in th
e flesh\, was dissolving in fear\, but by the strong hand of the Crucified
it was firmly held together. \n\nGlory to your holy Resurrection\, O Lor
 d. \n\nSorry death\, destroyed by death\, lies lifeless\; unable to withs
tand the God-filled assault of Life\, the strong one dies. And so to all
is given resurrection. \n\nGlory… Now… \n\nO pure one\, the wonder
of your divine child-bearing surpasses the laws of nature: marvellous wa
s your conceiving of God in your womb\, and marvellous the birth and your
 abiding virginity. \n\nSessional Hymn\, Tone 8 \n\nHaving become\, as is
right\, the leader of the ranks of heaven and minister of the glory of

remission of sins to those* who lovingly hymn your divine wonders. \
 n\nTone 1\, Glory… \n\nThe choir of angels\, having the divine Michael
as its supreme commander\,* with him offers unceasing hymnody to the Ho
ly Trinity\,* for the Creator of all by His word brought the fiery ran
 ks out of non-existence. \n\nNow… \n\nO all-holy Virgin\, hope of Chr

in manner past understanding and recounting\,* that He grant remissio
n of all our sins* and correction of life to those who with faith and

my God\, my Lord\,* most fittingly your holy Church keeps festival\,*
singing\, dancing\, crying out with pure minds\,* feasting in the Lord.
  \n\nGlory to your holy Resurrection\, O Lord. \n\nTruly\, O Christ\, th
e tree of life has blossomed for the cross\, planted in the earth\, fed wi
th blood and water from your pure side\, has put forth life for us. \n\nG
lory to your holy Resurrection\, O Lord. \n\nNo more the serpent’s lyin
g whisper: You shall be like God\; for Christ\, divine Creator of man’s
nature\, now has opened out before me\, with none to hinder\, the pathway
of life. \n\nGlory… Now… \n\nEver-virgin Mother of God\, truly beyon
d speech and incomprehensible to heaven and to earth are the mysteries of
your God-befitting child bearing. \n\nOde 5 \n\nIrmos: Shine with your
divine splendour\, I pray you\, O you who are good\,* on the souls of t
hose who rise early to you* and long to know you\, O Word of God\,* as i
n truth the God who calls them back from sin’s deep darkness. \n\nGlory
to your holy Resurrection\, O Lord. \n\nNow the Cherubim withdraw from m
e\, and the flaming sword is turned back at sight of you\, O Word of God\,
in truth the God who makes for the Thief the path to Paradise. \n\nGlory
to your holy Resurrection\, O Lord. \n\nI fear no longer the return to t
he dust\, Lord Christ\, for in your great mercy through your resurrection
you have led me\, forgotten\, from the dust to the heights of incorruptio
 n. \n\nGlory… Now… \n\nO good Lady of the world\, keep safe those wh
o from the heart confess you God-bearer\, for we have gained you\, true Mo
ther of God\, for our invincible protection. \n\nOde 6 \n\nIrmos: Watch
ing life’s sea rising in the surging waves of temptations\,* fast maki
ng for your calm harbour\, I cry out to you:* Lead my life up from corr
 uption\,* O you of many mercies . \n\nGlory to your holy Resurrection\,
  O Lord. \n\nCrucified\, O Lord\, by the nails which fastened you\, you a
nnulled the curse upon us\; pierced in the side by the spear\, you tore up
the written scroll against Adam\, and set the whole world free. \n\n
Glory to your holy Resurrection\, O Lord. \n\nDeception tripped up Adam a
nd brought him to the depth of Hell. But you\, God and compassion by natur
e\, came down to seek him and\, lifting him up on your shoulders\, raised
 him up with yourself. \n\nGlory… Now… \n\nAll-holy Lady\, who bore t
o mortal man his Lord and pilot\, quieten the fearful and unresting tumu
lt of my passions\, and grant to my heart tranquillity. \n\nKontakion \n
\nWith His life-giving hand* Christ our God\, the Giver of life\,* raise
d all the dead from the murky abyss* and bestowed resurrection upon human
ity.* He is for all the Saviour\,* the resurrection and the life\, and
the God of all. \n\nOikos \n\nO Giver of life\, we sing and we worship y
our cross and your burial\, for you entered Hell\, O deathless one\, as Go
d of all power\, and raising the dead with yourself and shattering the gat
es of Hell\, as God you demolished the might of death. Therefore with lo
ve and with longing we who are born of the earth praise you as risen from
the dead\, overthrowing the might of the all-destroying foe\, raising up a
ll who believe in you\, delivering the world from the stings of the serpen
t and us from the wiles of the enemy\, as the one who alone possesses the
power. Devoutly we sing\, therefore\, the praises of your resurrection\, f
or by this\, as God of all\, you have saved us. \n\n \n\nOde 7 \n\nIrmo
s: As falling dew the angel made the furnace to the holy children\,* an
d the command of God burned the Chaldeans\;* and the tyrant was convince
d\, crying aloud:* Blessed are you\, the God of our fathers. \n\nGlory
to your holy Resurrection\, O Lord. \n\nThe sun lamenting your Passion\,
O Lord\, drew darkness around him and the light of the day was darkened ov
er the whole of the earth\, which cried aloud: Blessed are you\, the God o
 f our fathers. \n\nGlory to your holy Resurrection\, O Lord. \n\nAt your
descent\, O Christ\, the underworld was clothed in splendour\; our first
father\, filled with gladness of heart\, sprang up\, dancing and crying ou
 t: Blessed are you\, the God of our fathers. \n\nGlory… Now… \n\nThr
ough you\, O Virgin Mother\, light has risen and joy to all the inhabited
earth\, for you gave birth to God the Creator of all\; ask him for us\, Al
l-pure\, to send down to your faithful people great mercy. \n\nOde 8 \n\
nIrmos: Dew from the flames you shed on the holy ones\,* burning thus w
ith water the sacrifice of the righteous.* All things\, O Christ\, you b
ring about according to your holy will\;* we highly exalt you throughout
the ages. \n\nGlory to your holy Resurrection\, O Lord. \n\nEnvy has fi
nished its work on the people of the Jews: of old the slayers of the proph
ets now they are slayers of God\; they set you upon the cross\, O Word of
God\, you whom we highly exalt throughout the ages. \n\nGlory to your hol
 y Resurrection\, O Lord. \n\nO Christ\, without leaving the courts of Hea
ven you came to Hell. Together with yourself you awakened the whole man\,
lying m corruption\, and he highly exalts you now throughout the ages. \n
 \nGlory… Now… \n\nFrom light you conceived the light-giving Word\, in
effably you gave him birth\, and are glorified. For the Holy Spirit dwelt
in you\, O Maid\, and therefore we praise you throughout the ages. \n\nMa
gnificat \n\n \n\nOde 9 \n\nIrmos: No man can see God\, on whom the ra
nks of angels dare not gaze\;* but\, through you\, All-holy One\, the Wo
rd made flesh is seen of mortal men.* Magnifying him with all the heaven
ly hosts\,* we call you blessed. \n\nGlory to your holy Resurrection\,
 O Lord. \n\nFree from passions you remained\, O Word of God\, when you h
eld converse with passions in the flesh. But having dealt to passion a Pas
sion\, you loosed man from his passions. For you alone are impassible an
 d almighty\, our Saviour. \n\nGlory to your holy Resurrection\, O Lord.
\n\nAccepting the corruption of death\, O Lord\, you kept your body from t
asting corruption\, and your soul\, life-giving\, divine\, was not left in
Hell. But\, as from sleep arising\, you raised us up with yourself. \n\n
We bless the Lord\, Father\, Son\, and Holy Spirit. \n\nWith pure lips we
mortal men give glory to God the Father\, to the Son with him without beg
inning\, and we worship the inexpressible power\, most glorious\, of the A
ll-holy Spirit\; for you alone subsist almighty\, undivided Trinity. \n\n
Small Litany \n\nHoly is the Lord \n\nHymn of Light (Gospel) \n\nResple
ndent with virtues let us behold the men standing in brilliant clothes ins
ide the grave\, giving life to the saddened myrrh-bearing women. Let us le
arn of the resurrection of the Lord of heaven and hasten with Peter to the
tomb of life. Let us stand before His wondrous resurrection and contempla
te the marvels of Christ. \n\nGlory… Now… \n\nO Lord\, when You told
the myrrh-bearing women to rejoice\, You ended the sadness of our first
parents\, and You brought the joy of the resurrection into the world. The
