SUMMARY:Sunday\, October 11\, 2026\; Commemoration of the Holy Fathers of
the Seventh Ecumenical Council\; Octoechos Tone 3\; The Holy Apostle Phili
p\, One of the Seven Deacons\; Our Venerable Father Theophanes the Branded
 \, Composer of Canons.
DESCRIPTION:GREAT VESPERS ON SATURDAY EVENING\n\nKathisma Reading\n\nBlesse
d is the man... is sung.\n\nAt Psalm 140\n\nTone 3\n\nLead my soul forth f
rom prison* that I may give thanks to Your name.\n\nBy Your cross\, O Chri
st our Saviour\,* the power of Death has been vanquished* and the deceit o
 f the devil has been destroyed.* Therefore\, mankind\, saved by faith\,* o
ffers You hymns of praise forever.\n\nThe just shall gather around me* whe
n You have been good to me.\n\nO Lord\, all creation has been enlightened
by Your resurrection\,* and paradise has been reopened\;* therefore\, all
creation extols You* and offers You hymns of praise forever.\n\nOut of the
  depths I cry to You\, O Lord\;* O Lord\, hear my voice!\n\nI glorify the
power of the Father\, Son\, and Holy Spirit\;* and I praise the dominion o
f the undivided Divinity\,* the consubstantial Trinity\,* who reigns forev
er and ever.\n\nLet Your ears be attentive* to the voice of my prayer.\n\n
We adore Your precious cross\, O Christ\,* and with hymns of praise we glo
rify Your resurrection\;* for by Your wounds we have all been healed.\n\nT
one 6\n\nIf You mark iniquities\, Lord\, who can stand?* But with You forg
iveness is that You may be revered.\n\nTruly the Seven Councils of the Fat
hers* although held at various times* were brought together under the cano
ns and in good order* by the Patriarch Germanus the New.* By inscribing an
d establishing their doctrines* and offering themselves as intercessors wi
th the Lord\,* the Fathers are protectors of our salvation* and shepherds
of the fold.\n\nI have waited for You as You have commanded\; my soul pati
ently relies on Your promise\,* for it has trusted in the Lord.\n\nThe Boo
k of the Law has truly honoured the seventh day for the Hebrews* who were
dispersed in the shadow of the Law and devoted to it.* But you Fathers\, b
y your participation in the Seven Councils\,* by the inspiration of God wh
o in six days finished this universe* and blessed the seventh day\,* have
made it even more honourable by decreeing the bounds of faith.\n\nFrom the
morning watch until night* let Israel trust in the Lord.\n\nYou have give
 n all\, O thrice-blessed Fathers\,* to know the Father\, the Son\, and the
Spirit clearly by their works:* the Trinity who is the cause of the creat
ion of the world.* By your mystical speech* you called the first three Cou
ncils and then the next four.* You have appeared as champions of the true
faith\,* proving that the Trinity is truly the Creator* of the four elemen
ts and of the world.\n\nFor with the Lord there is mercy\, and with Him th
ere is plentiful redemption\;* and He shall redeem Israel from all its ini
quities.\n\nIt would have sufficed Elisha the Prophet* to bend but once to
instil life into the dead son of the servant\,* but he kneeled and bent s
even times.* Thus\, in his foreknowledge he prophesied your gathering* thr
ough which you revived the Incarnation of the Word of God\,* and humiliate
d Arius and his co-workers.\n\nPraise the Lord\, all the nations\;* procla
 im His glory\, all you people.\n\nIn wisdom\, O venerable Fathers\,* you p
atched the garment of Christ* which had been torn by barking dogs\;* for y
ou could not possibly bear to see his nakedness\,* like Shem and Japheth o
f old\,* who could not bear to see the nakedness of their father.* Thus yo
u confounded the foolish Arius* and all those who followed his doctrines.\
n\nStrong is the love of the Lord for us\;* eternally will His truth endur
e.\n\nO Fathers\, you are the true shepherds* who expelled from the Saviou
r’s fold* the Macedonians and the Nestorians\,* the followers of Ephtech
nis and Dioscorus\,* Appolonarius\, Sabellius\, and Severus* because they
became devouring wolves hidden in the skins of lambs.* Since you exposed t
hese wretched ones\, we truly honour you.\n\nGlory…\n\nLet us honour tod
ay those mystical trumpets of the Spirit\,* namely the God-mantled Fathers
 * who\, speaking of divine things\,* sang in the midst of the Church a hym
n in unison\,* teaching that the Trinity is One\,* not differing in Substa
nce or Godhead\,* refuting Arius and struggling for the true faith.* They
always intercede with the Lord* to have mercy on our souls.\n\nTone 3\, No
w…\n\nO Lady most honourable\,* how could we but be rapt in wonder* at y
our giving birth to the Incarnate God* who\, without a mother\, was born o
f a Father before all ages?* You gave Him birth in the flesh without a fat
her\,* without a man’s instrumentality.* He is God and man whose two nat
ures are intact\,* neither one losing any of its properties.* Therefore\,
O Virgin Mother\,* intercede with Him to save the souls* of those who beli
eve and profess in true faith* that you are the Mother of God.\n\nApostich
a\n\nTone 3\n\nO Christ\, who darkened the sun by Your passion* and enligh
tened all creation by Your resurrection\,* accept our evening prayer\; for
You love mankind.\n\nThe Lord reigns\, He is clothed in majesty. Robed is
the Lord\, and girt about with strength.\n\nO Lord\, Your life-giving res
urrection has enlightened the entire universe* and has revived Your creati
on which lay in corruption.* Therefore\, we\, who have been released from
the curse of Adam\, cry out to You:* Almighty Lord\, glory to You!\n\nFor
He has made the world firm\, which shall not be moved.\n\nO God\, although
in Your divine nature You are unchangeable\,* yet in Your human nature Yo
u underwent change by suffering in the flesh.* All creation was prostrate
with fear* when it saw You hanging on the cross\,* and it groaned in sorro
w as it sang the praises of Your long-suffering.* But You descended into H
ades and arose on the third day\,* granting life and great mercy to the wo
 rld.\n\nHoliness befits Your house\, O Lord\, for length of days.\n\nYou s
uffered death\, O Christ\, to deliver mankind from death.* And when You ar
ose from the dead on the third day\,* You enlightened the world* and resur
rected all who acknowledge You as God.\n\nTone 4\, Glory…\n\nCome all yo
u people of the true faith\,* let us celebrate today in faith and true wor
ship* the anniversary of the God-mantled Fathers* who came together in the
splendid city of Nicaea* from the whole inhabited world.* These Fathers\,
in the wisdom of their pious minds\,* refuted the impious belief which th
e wretched Arius had invented.* They banished him from the universal Churc
h by a decree of the Council.* They instructed all to confess openly* that
the Son of God is consubstantial and co-eternal with the Father before al
l eternity\,* decreeing the same with precision and true worship in the Ca
non of Faith.* Therefore\, following their divine doctrines\,* in true fai
th let us worship the Father and the Son and the most Holy Spirit\,* the c
onsubstantial Trinity in one Godhead.\n\nNow…\n\nO most pure Virgin\, he
ar the petitions of your servants.* Remove the burdens which oppress us\,*
and deliver us from our sorrows\;* for you are the only firm and constant
support on whom we rely.* O Mother of God\, never permit us who call upon
you* to be overwhelmed by our cares.* Hasten to fulfill the supplications
of all who\, in faith\, cry out to you:* Rejoice\, O Lady\, helper of all
mankind\,* the joy\, the refuge\, and the salvation of our souls.\n\nTrop
 aria\n\nTone 3\n\nLet the heavens be glad\, let the earth rejoice\,* for t
he Lord has done a mighty deed with His arm.* He trampled death by death.
He became the first-born of the dead\;* He saved us from the abyss of Hade
s* and granted great mercy to the world.\n\nTone 8\, Glory…\n\nChrist ou
r God\, You are glorified above all\,* You established our fathers as beac
ons on earth* and through them guided all of us to the true faith.* Glory
to You\, most compassionate Lord.\n\nNow…\n\nO gracious Lord\, for the s
ake of mankind You were born of a virgin\;* through Your death on the cros
s You conquered death\;* and through Your resurrection You revealed yourse
lf as God.* O merciful Lord\, do not disdain those whom You have created w
ith Your own hands\,* but show forth Your love for mankind.* Accept the in
tercession which the Mother\, who bore You\, makes in our behalf.* O Savio
ur\, save Your despairing people!\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nGREAT MATINS ON SUNDAY MOR

power.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nIkos\n\nLet heaven and earth dance together today and
with one mind sing to Christ God for he has raised from the graves those
held in bonds. All creation rejoices together and brings to our Creator an
d Redeemer of all its fitting songs. For today\, as giver of life\, with h
imself he drew mortal man from Hell and lifts him up to heaven\, he dashes

divine might of his authority.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nOde 7\n\nIrmos: As\, long ag

reator\, clearly announcing the hidden truth in the scriptures to the fait
hful who cry to you: Blessed are you\, God of our fathers.\n\nGlory to you
 r holy Resurrection\, O Lord.\n\nWhen your side was pierced\, O Christ\, d
rops of your life-giving blood\, flowing from God by divine dispensation\,
distilled upon the earth and re-made those born of the earth who cry to y
ou: Blessed are you\, God of our fathers.\n\nGlory be to the Father\, and
to the Son\, and to the Holy Spirit\, the Lord\, now and for ever and ever
. Amen.\n\nLet us the faithful glorify the Good Spirit with the Father and
the only-begotten Son\, one in three\, as we worship the first cause and
one Godhead\, crying: Blessed are you\, God of our fathers.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\n

mn:* Bless the Lord\, all you his works\,* and exalt him throughout all th
 e ages.\n\nGlory to your holy Resurrection\, O Lord.\n\nThe brightness of
the temple was rent when your cross was set on Golgotha: all creation bowe
d down together and raised the song: Bless the Lord\, all you his works\,
and exalt him throughout all the ages.\n\nGlory to your holy Resurrection\
 , O Lord.\n\nYou have risen\, Christ\, from the grave\, by the divine powe
r of the cross you have raised man overthrown by treachery and set him str
aight again\, crying out and saying: Bless the Lord\, all you his works\,
and exalt him throughout all the ages.\n\nGlory… Now…\n\nYou are decla
red to be the temple of God\, living resting-place and ark\, for you\, pur

Lord.\n\nLaid dead in the grave\, O Christ\, you saved our forefathers fro
m the corruption of death\; you raised the dead and made life to blossom a

the Holy Spirit\, and breathing over them\, You gave them Your peace. You
said to them: Whose sins you forgive\, they are forgiven\; whose sins you
bind\, they are bound. After eight days You showed Thomas Your hands and
Your side. With them\, therefore\, we cry to You: You are my Lord and my G
