GREAT VESPERS ONMONDAY EVENING
Kathisma Reading
Blessed is the man… is sung.
At Psalm 140
Tone 1
Out of the depths I cry to You, O Lord;* O Lord, hear my voice!
O father Euthymius, an angel of heaven was sent to announce beforehand the birth of you* who like John sprang forth from the womb of a barren woman;* for you showed yourself to be an emulator of him* and a homeless one who spurned possessions, sharing his way of life,* and, like the Baptist, sustaining yourself in the mountains,* and shining forth with boundless miracles.
Let Your ears be attentive* to the voice of my prayer.
O father Euthymius, you produced the fruit of barrenness,* yet were truly shown to have many children;* for the desert, which before was trackless,* was filled with monastics, your spiritual seed.* And now, make supplication,* that our souls be granted peace and great mercy.
If You mark iniquities, Lord, who can stand?* But with You forgiveness is that You may be revered.
O father Euthymius, your life was excellent and your Faith truly Orthodox;* for through activity you attained to the most exalted vision,* becoming an abode of wisdom, worshiping Christ in two natures as One of the Trinity.* Beseech Him in behalf of our souls.
I have waited for You as You have commanded; my soul patiently relies on Your promise,* for it has trusted in the Lord.
O father Euthymius, sharing in the sufferings of Him who was stretched out upon the Cross,* through activity you truly made yourself conformable to His resurrection and glory.* Entreat now that He grant to our souls* peace and great mercy.
Tone 4
From the morning watch until night* let Israel trust in the Lord.
O you who were sanctified from your mother’s womb,* when the eye of Him who sees all things perceived your purpose and inclination* leading constantly toward those things which are higher,* then, O most blessed one, declaring you to be a God-given gift,* the namesake of good courage,* He loosed the sorrow of your parents.* Therefore, advancing from infancy, you pleased God, our Benefactor.* Beseech Him that He save and enlighten our souls.
For with the Lord there is mercy, and with Him there is plentiful redemption;* and He shall redeem Israel from all its iniquities.
Praise the Lord, all the nations;* proclaim His glory, all you people.
Finding you to be like a clear mirror of divine revelations,* Christ illumined you with the radiant splendour of His light,* O father who are full of gifts divine.* Therefore, you have been shown to be a well-spring overflowing with healings* and a feeder of the hungry,* watering with rains the desire of the those who thirst;* and, looking upon souls as pledges, O Wise one,* by your discourse you made them better for God.* Entreat Him that He save and enlighten our souls.
Strong is the love of the Lord for us;* eternally will His truth endure.
Shining forth with vision and activity, your life was angelic,* a standard and most excellent model of virtue,* for those who desire to worship God; all-perfection.* And your divinely wise discourse, O Euthymius,* has taught all to worship the Trinity,* that Christ is known to be One in two natures,* and that the councils were equal in number to the four Gospels of Christ.* Beseech Him that He save and enlighten our souls.
Tone 3, Glory…
Dedicated to God, like another Samuel from your mother’s womb, O father Euthymius,* you were the namesake of the good courage for the faithful, the staff, and confirmation of monastics,* and the pure habitation of the Holy Spirit.* Ask great mercy for us who honour you.
Now…
O Lady most honourable,* how could we but be rapt in wonder* at your giving birth to the Incarnate God* who, without a mother, was born of a Father before all ages?* You gave Him birth in the flesh without a father,* without a man’s instrumentality.* He is God and man whose two natures are intact,* neither one losing any of its properties.* Therefore, O Virgin Mother,* intercede with Him to save the souls* of those who believe and profess in true faith* that you are the Mother of God.
Prokeimenon, Tone 4
The Lord hears me* when I cry out to Him.
verse: Whenever I called, the God of my justice heard me.

Tone 5
Rejoice, O venerable father,* in that you are the cause of good cheer for the Church;* for by your nativity all the assaults of the heretics were repulsed by the providence of God.* Therefore, He called you Euthymius, namesake of good courage.* You filled the ranks of celestial beings with joy by the radiance of your life,* and now, making your abode with them, filled with light* and enjoying most blessed and divine effulgence,* entreat Christ that He grant great mercy to our souls.
Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints!
Made steadfast by the staff of the Cross, you dried up torrents of iniquity,* and, noetically watered by the torrent of divine sweetness and the wellspring of paradise,* you showed forth springs of salvation in the desert.* And irrigated with streams of the divine Spirit like a palm-tree, O venerable one,* you hastened to the heights of heaven,* and showed yourself to be a fiery pillar full of luminous effulgence, O divinely wise one.* Therefore, entreat Christ that He grant great mercy to our souls.
Blessed is the man who fears the Lord; who greatly delights in is commandments!
Truly you have passed over with joy and gladness of soul to the wondrous tabernacles,* even to the house of God, O most blessed father,* where you listen to the beautiful voices, the sweet hymnody* and the ineffable delight of those who keep festival,* sharing in their beauty, O Euthymius.* And desiring this alone, you mortified your flesh, which you attained, adorned with divine righteousness.* Entreat Christ who grants the world great mercy.
Glory…
O venerable father, you gave no sleep to your eyes, nor slumber to your eyelids,* until you freed soul and body from the passions* and prepared yourself as a dwelling-place for the Spirit;* for Christ, coming with the Father, made His abode within you:* In that you are a favourite of the consubstantial Trinity,* O Euthymius our father, great preacher, pray in behalf of our souls.
Now…
O most pure Virgin,* you are the temple, the gate, the palace, and the throne of the King.* Christ, our Redeemer and Lord,* appeared through you to those who slumbered in darkness.* For He, as the Sun of Righteousness,* wished to enlighten those whom He created with His own hands* according to His own image.* Therefore, O Lady, whom we always praise in song,* we beseech you to intercede with Christ for the salvation of our souls;* for, as His Mother, you can approach Him with the greatest confidence.
Troparia
Tone 4
Be glad, O barren desert;* take heart, you who have never known labor.* For a man of the desires of the Spirit* has multiplied your children.* He planted them in godliness* and reared them with self-mastery to perfection in virtues.* By his prayers, Christ God, grant peace to our lives.
Glory… Now…
O Mother of God, the mystery hidden from all eternity* and unknown even to the angels,* was revealed through you to those on earth:* God took on our human nature* and united it to His divine nature in a perfect but unconfused union.* Then, He willingly accepted the cross for our sake* and thereby raised again the first created man,* and saved our souls from death.
