Cheesefare Tuesday.
VESPERS ON MONDAY EVENING
Kathisma Reading
The appointed psalms are chanted.
At Psalm 140
Tone 6
If You mark iniquities, Lord, who can stand?* But with You forgiveness is that You may be revered.
Who does not weep for me, who in intemperance have broken the commandment of the Most High?* I have come to dwell in Hades instead of paradise* through the sight of the sweet food which brought about death,* and because of it I have become a stranger to life and the glory of God.* Yet accept me the penitent, О Lord, for the sake of Your great mercy,* in that You are merciful and the Lover of mankind.
I have waited for You as You have commanded; my soul patiently relies on Your promise,* for it has trusted in the Lord.
Behold my sorrow and pain,* and the countless multitude of my transgressions,* the affliction of my soul and the delusion of my mind.* Attend to the cry of one who is accursed and condemned, О Lord,* and grant me a contrite spirit and a humble heart;* and in Your great mercy give me a wellspring of tears* and forgiveness for my many transgressions.
From the morning watch until night* let Israel trust in the Lord.
О God, who desires that all should be saved:* Look down and hearken to my supplication, and reject not my tears as shed in vain.* For who having come to You weeping has not been saved straightway?* Who having cried out fervently to Youhas not been hearkened to straightway?* О Master, be quick to save all who entreat You,* for You are invincible in mercy.
Tone 2
For with the Lord there is mercy, and with Him there is plentiful redemption;* and He shall redeem Israel from all its iniquities.
You that love the things of God, honouring those of the Spirit,* come today and let us behold the banquet* of the sweet savour of abstinence* which Tarasius, the godly host, by his immaterial virtues,* has prepared for us in spirit.* Let us all cry out eagerly:* We entreat you, pray that we may obtain forgiveness of our sins!
Praise the Lord, all the nations;* proclaim His glory, all you people.
You revealed the faith to the whole world in truth,* wise and eminent father,* you wrote it in stone, shaking off the dirt of heresy,* establishing the beauty of the Church,* as you followed the teachings of the apostles of Christ.* Together with them we all cry out to you:* Rightly-praised father, pray that our souls may be saved!
Strong is the love of the Lord for us;* eternally will His truth endure.
You received everything of Christ* and the blessedness of giving alms in love for the poor.* Pouring forth alms upon them richly,* you received the mercy of the promise,* for mercy will cry out to be praised at the judgment.* Therefore you departed to life!* We beseech you, pray that we may obtain forgiveness of our sins!
Tone 6, Glory… Now…
О most holy Virgin, show forth upon me, the wretched one,* the depths of your love for mankind,* the abyss of your tender compassion, and the countless compassions of thy goodness.* Mow down the stubble of sin, granting me chastity,* and preserve my body and soul undefiled,* О you who have given birth to the Saviour.
Prokeimenon, Tone 4
The Lord hears me* when I cry out to Him.
verse: Whenever I called, the God of my justice heard me.
Aposticha
Tone 8
With fasting let us hasten to wash away the filth of our transgressions,* and by means of mercy and compassion to the poor,* let us enter the bridal chamber of the Bridegroom Christ,* who has bestowed upon us great mercy.
I have lifted up my eyes to You enthroned in heaven. Behold, as the eyes of servants are on the hands of their masters, as the eyes of a maid are on the hands of her mistress, so are our eyes on the Lord our God until He has mercy on us.
With fasting let us hasten to wash away the filth of our transgressions,* and by means of mercy and compassion to the poor,* let us enter the bridal chamber of the Bridegroom Christ,* who has bestowed upon us great mercy.
Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us; for we have been filled with shame; our soul is all too full of the mockery of the rich, of the contempt of the proud.
O you martyrs of the Lord,* we beseech you, to pray before our God:* asking that abundant compassion be bestowed upon our souls* and that our many sins be cleansed.
Glory… Now…
The most glorious and most pure Theotokos, the true Mother of God,* Let us piously venerate with praises rejoicing,* greeting her as did the Angel:* Rejoice! holy Mother of the incarnate Son of God;* Rejoice! habitation of the Holy Spirit,* ever interceding on our behalf that our souls be saved.
Troparia
Tone 4
The truth of your deeds made you for your flock a rule of faith* and an image of meekness,* a teacher of continence.* And so you gained the heights through humility,* riches through poverty,* father and bishop, Tarasius.* Intercede with Christ, our God,* for the salvation of our souls.
Glory… Now…
Let us poor sinners hasten with fervour to the Mother of God;* let us humbly kneel before her and say from the depth of our hearts:* O Lady, be kind to us and help us.* Hasten, for we are perishing under a multitude of sins.* Do not turn away your servants empty-handed,* for you are their only hope and protection.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, now and for ever and ever. Amen.
