 n “You have granted a sign…”\n\nIf You mark iniquities\, Lord\, who 
 can stand?* But with You forgiveness is that You may be revered.\n\nBy abs
 tinence and fervent prayer\, venerable Chariton\,* you caused your body’
 s passions to wither.* With streams of tears you drowned the deceitful ser
 pent\, blessed one.* In great measure you were well-pleasing to God!* Ther
 efore Jesus\, the Lover of mankind and the Saviour of our souls\,* has ado
 rned you with heavenly gifts!\n\nI have waited for You as You have command
 ed\; my soul patiently relies on Your promise\,* for it has trusted in the
  Lord.\n\nBy abstinence and fervent prayer\, venerable Chariton\,* you cau
 sed your body’s passions to wither.* With streams of tears you drowned t
 he deceitful serpent\, blessed one.* In great measure you were well-pleasi

 hy\, God-bearing Chariton!\n\nFor with the Lord there is mercy\, and with

 ings\, blessed one:* monasteries for the building up and salvation* of mon
 astics who honour your holy memory.\n\nStrong is the love of the Lord for 
 us\;* eternally will His truth endure.\n\nYou fled\, most sacred and bless
 ed Chariton\,* withdrawing into the mountains and deserts.* Preserving you
 r soul undefiled\, you were revealed to be a dwelling of the Trinity\,* in

 ou were above the world and the flesh\,* truly living\, transcending all v
 isible things!* Yet you did not live for yourself alone\,* but Christ our 
 God dwelt within you!* Entreat Him that our souls may be saved!\n\nNow… 
 \n\nO Mother of God\, because of You David the Prophet* became an ancestor
  of God\;* he foretold and sang a joyous hymn of praise* and cried out to 
 Him who worked wonders in you:* “The Queen stood at your right hand.”*
  God revealed you as a life-giving mother\,* when He chose to be incarnate
  of you without a father.* He renewed in man His image which the passions 
 had corrupted.* He found the lost sheep in the mountains\, carried it on H
 is shoulders\,* offered it to the Father\, generously numbered it among th
 e powers of heaven\,* and saved the whole world\, since He is Christ of gr
