SUMMARY:Monday\, August 24\, 2026\; The Holy Hieromartyr Eutyches
DESCRIPTION:VESPERS ON SUNDAY EVENING\n\nKathisma Reading\n\nThere are no a
ppointed psalms to be chanted tonight.\n\nAt Psalm 140\n\nTone 4\, Podoben
“You have given a sign…”\n\nIf You mark iniquities\, Lord\, who can
stand?* But with You forgiveness is that You may be revered.\n\nI have si
nned against You\, О Lover of mankind\,* and not according to my human na
ture\,* for which I might ask forgiveness\,* but inhumanly\, past my natur
e\, beyond forgiveness.* О my Saviour who became a man\,* transcending th
e laws of nature and comprehension by the human mind\,* since You have a l
ove for mankind surpassing understanding\,* have mercy on me that I may tu
rn back to You.\n\nI have waited for You as You have commanded\; my soul p
atiently relies on Your promise\,* for it has trusted in the Lord.\n\nYou
appointed repentance for those who sin\, and not for the righteous\, О Ch
rist.* I have as examples the thief and the prodigal\, Manasseh and the ha
rlot\,* the persecutor Paul\, the publican and Peter who fell away\,* yet
I am brought sorely to despair.* Knowing Your supremely good love for mank
ind\, О Saviour\, I turn to You and weep\,* filled with the good hope tha
t You will accept me.\n\nFrom the morning watch until night* let Israel tr
ust in the Lord.\n\nTo me who am now sunk in the passions of the body* and
am far removed from You\, О King and God of all\,* grant compunction\, t
he removal of evils and perfect amendment.* In Your great goodness\, О om
 nipotent Jesus\, Saviour of our souls\,* save me\, a prodigal\, who otherw
ise have no hope.\n\nTone 8\, Podoben “O all glorious wonder…”\n\nFo
r with the Lord there is mercy\, and with Him there is plentiful redemptio
n\;* and He shall redeem Israel from all its iniquities.\n\nO blessed mart
yr Eutyches\,* having been taught the word of God in sacred manner by the
honoured disciple\,* the preacher of divine eloquence\,* you learned from
him every sacred doctrine\, and were shown to be a light\,* illumining eve
ry thought with grace through your sacred theology.* Wherefore\, we honour
your holy memory.\n\nPraise the Lord\, all the nations\;* proclaim His gl
ory\, all you people.\n\nYou cast down the fortress of delusion\, O you
who are most rich\,* by your steadfast struggle of endurance\,* by your wo
unds and stripes and your glorious death.* Wherefore\, you have received i
mmortality\,* making your abode with the choirs of the martyrs* and with t
he ranks of the angels\,* being well and perfectly deified in godly manner
 * by a higher communion.\n\nStrong is the love of the Lord for us\;* etern
ally will His truth endure.\n\nImprisoned in a dungeon\,* you received the
Bread of life from heaven\, O glorious one\;* and\, cast into the flame\,
you remained unconsumed.* Lacerated with wounds cruelly inflicted\,* you
tamed the raging of the wild beasts by your prayers.* By the sword was you
r head severed\,* and you were drawn up to the heavens\,* as on a divine c
 hariot.\n\nTone 4\, Glory… Now…\n\nO all-immaculate one\, who has surp
assed the ranks of angels:* with the angels ever beseech Him who has domin
ion over the angels and all of creation\,* that He grant us remission of s
ins\, deliverance from the passions\,* and make us\, who hymn His glory\,
worthy inheritors of incorrupt sustenance.\n\nProkeimenon\, Tone 8\n\nAnd
now bless the Lord\,* all you servants of the Lord.\n\nverse: Who stand in
the temple of the Lord\, in the courtyards of the house of our God.\n\nAp
osticha\n\nTone 4\n\nI wish to wash away the record of my sins with tears\
, O Lord\,* and please You the rest of my life through repentance\;* but t
he enemy deceives me and fights against my soul.* Before the end and I utt
erly perish\, save me\, O Lord.\n\nI have lifted up my eyes to You enthron
ed in heaven. Behold\, as the eyes of servants are on the hands of their m
asters\, as the eyes of a maid are on the hands of her mistress\, so are o
ur eyes on the Lord our God until He has mercy on us.\n\nWho\, among the t
empest-tossed\, having taking refuge in Your harbour\,* will not be saved\
, O Lord?* Or who\, that ails and falling down in Your infirmary\, will no
t be healed?* O Maker of all that is\, and Physician of the ailing\,* befo
 re the end\, may I not utterly perish\, save me\, O Lord.\n\nHave mercy on
us\, O Lord\, have mercy on us\; for we have been filled with shame\; our
soul is all too full of the mockery of the rich\, of the contempt of the
proud.\n\nО Christ God\, who are glorified in the memorials of Your saint
s\,* be entreated by them\,* and send down upon us great mercy.\n\nGlory
 … Now…\n\nRejoice\, O cloud of Light!* Rejoice\, radiant candlestick!*
Rejoice\, jar wherein the Manna was kept!* Rejoice\, staff of Aaron!* Rej
 oice\, bush unburned!* Rejoice\, bridal-chamber!* Rejoice\, O throne!* Rej
 oice\, holy mountain!* Rejoice\, refuge! Rejoice\, divine table!* Rejoice\
 , mystic portal!* Rejoice\, O joy of all!\n\nTroparion\, Tone 4\n\nHaving
shared the way of life of the apostles\,* and having become a successor to
their thrones\,* labouring you found the divinely inspired way to contemp
lation.* Therefore\, forthrightly ministering the word of truth\,* you she
d your blood for the faith\, O hieromartyr\, Eutyches.* Intercede with Chr
ist our God for the salvation of our souls.\n\nGlory… Now…\n\nTo the O
ne who was reared in the Temple\,* close to the Holy of Holies\,* and who
was full of faith\, wisdom\, and perfect virginity\,* Gabriel\, the captai
n and leader\,* offered esteem and greetings from heaven when he said:* Re
joice\, O blessed One! Rejoice\, O glorified One!* The Lord is with you.\n
