SUMMARY:Friday\, September 11\, 2026\; Our Venerable Mother Theodora of Ale
 xandria.
DESCRIPTION:Post-feast of the Nativity of the Mother of God. Abstention fro
m meat and foods that contain these ingredients\n\nAT VESPERS ON THURSDAY
EVENING\n\nThe commemoration of the Holy Heiromartyr Autonomous (September
  12) is transferred to this evening\, since the 12th is the Leave-taking o
f the Nativity of the Theotokos.\n\nAt Psalm 140\n\nTone 4\, Podoben “As
one valiant among the martyrs…”\n\nIf You mark iniquities\, Lord\, wh
o can stand?* But with You forgiveness is that You may be revered.\n\nIn a
woman’s body but in the guise of a man\,* you undertook manly struggles
\, living in the midst of men\,* causing the passions to wither\,* and utt
erly restraining the raging of lust by fasting and constant supplications\
, O Theodora\,* and by your divine and never-ceasing contemplation of God.
\n\nI have waited for You as You have commanded\; my soul patiently relies
on Your promise\,* for it has trusted in the Lord.\n\nThe sun\, setting b
eneath the earth\, never saw you sin\;* and the Lord\, who knows men’s h
earts and sees things hidden\,* knew you to be untiring* and illumined the
eyes of your heart with the light of repentance.* Therefore\, you diligen
tly strove to please Him through painful abstinence* and the perfection of
the virtues.\n\nFrom the morning watch until night* let Israel trust in t
he Lord.\n\nIn no way understanding the ways of the enemy’s thoughts\,*
you loved the child whom you did not beget* and nurtured him with paternal
kindness\, O Theodora\,* enduring with true piety of mind the undeserved
abuse and censure of men.* Therefore\, we celebrate your honoured solemnit
y.\n\nTone 4\, Podoben “As one valiant among the martyrs…”\n\nFor wi
th the Lord there is mercy\, and with Him there is plentiful redemption\;*
and He shall redeem Israel from all its iniquities.\n\nShining with the v
irtues\, adorned with piety\,* you were a godly hierarch\,* and you passed
over the world like the brilliant sun\,* sowing the preaching of the Fait
h everywhere* and cutting down falsehood with the scythe of your tongue\,*
O divinely wise hierarch Autonomus\,* O great preacher.\n\nPraise the Lor
d\, all the nations\;* proclaim His glory\, all you people.\n\nYou did not
hesitate to endure painful sufferings\,* manly struggles\, wounds and sor
 es\;* for\, buried under a multitude of stones\, O Autonomus\,* you made t
hem into a stairway and ladder\,* ascending thereby to God as one crowned\
;* and you joined the armies of the incorporeal ones\,* praying for the wo
rld.\n\nStrong is the love of the Lord for us\;* eternally will His truth
endure.\n\nYou made your vesture bright through the blood of your martyrdo
m* and the grace of the divine Spirit\;* and in sacred manner entered into
  the holy of holies on high\,* where Jesus\, our Forerunner\, entered\,* r
eceiving from God a crown of victory* with all who died by shedding their
 blood in martyrdom\,* O Autonomus.\n\nTone 4\, Glory… Now…\n\nIn accor
dance with the angel’s prophecy\,* you issued forth from the righteous J
oachim and Anna\,* as an all-pure fruit\, heaven\, and the throne of God\,
 * a receptacle of purity\, heralding forth joy to all the world\,* O Virgi
n\, mediatrix of our life\,* removal of the curse\, bestowal of blessing.*
  Therefore\, on the feast of your nativity\, O divinely called Virgin\,* a
sk peace for the world and great mercy for our souls.\n\nAposticha\n\nTone
2\, Podoben “O house of Ephratha…”\n\nYou wept tears from the depth
s of your soul\,* lamenting your childlessness\, desiring children\;* yet
you have given birth to a babe* who is the boast of our whole race.\n\nHea
 r\, O daughter\, and see\,* and incline your ear.\n\nWith voices of hymnod
y* let us honour the honoured nativity of the most holy Virgin\,* though w
hom the world has been renewed.\n\nThe rich among the people* shall entrea
 t your countenance.\n\nRejoice\, O wise prophets\, you divinely eloquent o
nes\;* for the Virgin is born\,* through whom the Salvation of the world w
ill be given birth.\n\nTone 4\, Glory… Now…\n\nToday let the barren an
d childless Anna clap her hands with splendour\,* let those on earth bear
lamps\,* let kings leap for joy\, let hierarchs be glad in blessing\,* and
  let us hold festival\;* for\, behold\, the Queen\, the immaculate Bride o
f the Father\,* has sprung forth from the root of Jesse.* No longer will w
omen bear children in grief\,* for Joy has blossomed forth and Life shall
live in the world for all men.* No longer will the offerings of Joachim be
rejected\,* for the lamentation of Anna has been changed to joy\,* and sh
e says: Rejoice with me\, you chosen Israel\,* for\, lo! the Lord has give
n me the animate palace of His divine glory\,* for our common gladness and
joy\,* and the salvation of our souls!\n\nTroparia\n\nTone 8\n\nThe divin
e image was faithfully preserved in you\, O mother\,* for taking up the Cr
oss you followed Christ.* By your deeds you have taught us to see beyond f
lesh which passes* and care for the soul\, a thing immortal.* And so\, O v
enerable Theodora\,* your spirit rejoices with the angels.\n\nTone 4\, Glo
 ry… Now…\n\nYour nativity\, O Virgin Mother of God\,* has made joy kno
wn to all the world\,* for from you dawned the Sun of Righteousness\, Chri

g death of no effect* He bestowed on us eternal life.\n\nAT DIVINE LITURGY
