At Psalm 140

Tone 4

If You mark iniquities, Lord, who can stand?* But with You forgiveness is that You may be revered.

Desiring blessedness which passes understanding, O wondrous one,* you considered abstinence to be food, poverty to bee riches,* non-acquisition to be true property, and humility to be glory;* therefore, you have received your desires according to your understanding,* dwelling in the habitations of the saints, O Macarius.

I have waited for You as You have commanded; my soul patiently relies on Your promise,* for it has trusted in the Lord.

From the morning watch until night* let Israel trust in the Lord.

Steadfastly you finished the course of asceticism, and kept the Faith;* hence, you have also received the crown of righteousness, O father,* which Christ prepared for you, granting rewards and bestowing honours and rewards for pangs, as is meet.* Pray, O glorious one, that He give them to us as well.

For with the Lord there is mercy, and with Him there is plentiful redemption;* and He shall redeem Israel from all its iniquities.

Praise the Lord, all the nations;* proclaim His glory, all you people.

Subduing your body, you rejected every passionate attachment, O divinely wise one,* embittering your senses with mighty feats of abstinence and a hard life,* with the endurance of perils and the bearing of evil circumstances,* for which you have received never-ending delight,* eternal food and ineffable joy.

Strong is the love of the Lord for us;* eternally will His truth endure.

Subduing your body, you rejected every passionate attachment, O divinely wise one,* embittering your senses with mighty feats of abstinence and a hard life,* with the endurance of perils and the bearing of evil circumstances,* for which you have received never-ending delight,* eternal food and ineffable joy.

Tone 8, Glory…

Be glad, O Egypt, who has budded forth such a citizen as Macarius amongst your saints!* For, lo! adorned with the wisdom of the Holy Spirit,* he prefigured every aspect of ascetic endeavour in his virtuous life.* And we, setting him before us as mediator,* ask that he beseech Christ, that our souls be saved.

Now…

I, a created being, ever offend the Creator and move Him to anger.* Grant me correction, О Maiden, first conciliating Him;* and with your help raise me up to pleasing works,* that I may receive salvation and remission.

Prokeimenon, Tone 8

And now bless the Lord,* all you servants of the Lord.

verse: Who stand in the temple of the Lord, in the courtyards of the house of our God.

Aposticha

Tone 7

As did the Prodigal Son, I also come to You, O compassionate one,* and I fall down before You.* Accept me as one of Your hired servants O God,* and have mercy on me, O Lover of mankind.

I have lifted up my eyes to You enthroned in heaven. Behold, as the eyes of servants are on the hands of their masters, as the eyes of a maid are on the hands of her mistress, so are our eyes on the Lord our God until He has mercy on us.

Like the man who fell among thieves and was wounded,* I also have fallen as a result of the multitude of sins,* and my soul has been grievously wounded.* To whom shall I, guilty as I am, flee for refuge,* if not to You, the merciful Physician of souls?* Pour upon me, O God, Your great mercy.

Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us; for we have been filled with shame; our soul is all too full of the mockery of the rich, of the contempt of the proud.

Glory to You, О Christ God,* boast of the apostles and joy of the martyrs,* who preached the consubstantial Trinity!

Tone 6, Glory…

O venerable father, the sound of your corrections have gone forth into all the earth;* therefore, you have found the reward of your labours in the heavens,* have destroyed hordes of demons* and attained the ranks of the angels, whose life you faultlessly emulated.* As you have boldness before Christ God, ask peace for our souls.

Now…

Like the Archangel, let us the faithful* hymn the bridal-chamber of heaven, the portal truly sealed:* Rejoice, for whose sake have budded forth to us Christ the Saviour of all,* the Bestower of life and God!* With your arm O Lady cast down the tyrants, our godless foes,* O most pure one, O hope of Christians!

Troparia

Tone 1

Dweller of the wilderness and angel in the body!* You were a wonder-worker, our God-bearing father Macarius!* You received heavenly gifts through fasting, vigil, and prayer:* Healing the sick and the souls of those drawn to you by faith:* Glory to Him Who gave you strength!* Glory to Him Who granted you a crown!* Glory to Him Who through you grants healing to all!

Glory… Now…

The universe recognizes in you, O Woman full of grace,* the marvel of marvels, and it rejoices.* You have borne without human seed* the One Whom even the highest ranks of angels cannot look upon,* and you have given Him birth in a manner beyond understanding.* Intercede with Him for the salvation of our souls.
