The appointed psalms are chanted.

At Psalm 140

Tone 6

If You mark iniquities, Lord, who can stand?* But with You forgiveness is that You may be revered.

Who does not weep for me, who in intemperance have broken the commandment of the Most High?* I have come to dwell in Hades instead of paradise* through the sight of the sweet food which brought about death,* and because of it I have become a stranger to life and the glory of God.* Yet accept me the penitent, О Lord, for the sake of Your great mercy,* in that You are merciful and the Lover of mankind.

I have waited for You as You have commanded; my soul patiently relies on Your promise,* for it has trusted in the Lord.

Behold my sorrow and pain,* and the countless multitude of my transgressions,* the affliction of my soul and the delusion of my mind.* Attend to the cry of one who is accursed and condemned, О Lord,* and grant me a contrite spirit and a humble heart;* and in Your great mercy give me a wellspring of tears* and forgiveness for my many transgressions.

From the morning watch until night* let Israel trust in the Lord.

О God, who desires that all should be saved:* Look down and hearken to my supplication, and reject not my tears as shed in vain.* For who having come to You weeping has not been saved straightway?* Who having cried out fervently to Youhas not been hearkened to straightway?* О Master, be quick to save all who entreat You,* for You are invincible in mercy.

Tone 8

For with the Lord there is mercy, and with Him there is plentiful redemption;* and He shall redeem Israel from all its iniquities.

What shall we name you, O divinely inspired one?* Head of the Orthodox Church of Christ?* Eye of piety, possessed of the spiritual understanding* to see clearly the hearts of men,* and pouring forth the word of life upon all the ends of the earth?* Divinely inscribed scroll of the right Faith?* Pray that our souls be saved.

Praise the Lord, all the nations;* proclaim His glory, all you people.

What now shall we call you, O wondrous one?* Preacher of the Truth, firm foundation?* Senior among the honoured supreme council?* Excellent rule of doctrines, possessing the measure of correction?* The one who cut down the division of Nestorius and the confusion of Eutyches* with divinely wrought revelations?

Strong is the love of the Lord for us;* eternally will His truth endure.

What now shall we call you, O marvellous one?* Prince and ruler, splendidly exercising spiritual mastery over the passions of the body?* Vessel of divine mercy, habitation of perfect love?* Loving pastor awaiting the repentance of sinners?* Pray that our souls be saved.

Glory… Now…

Whom have you emulated, O wretched soul,* who in no wise rouse yourself to repentance* nor fear the fire which awaits the wicked?* Arise, and cry out,* calling upon her who alone is quick to help:* O Virgin Mother, entreat your Son and our God,* to deliver me from the snare of the deceiver!

Prokeimenon, Tone 4

The Lord hears me* when I cry out to Him.

verse: Whenever I called, the God of my justice heard me.

Aposticha

Tone 6

At Your fearful Coming, O Christ, may we not hear the words: I know you not.* For though, O Saviour, we have put our trust in You,* from negligence we have not kept not Your commandments;* yet we entreat You, spare our souls.

I have lifted up my eyes to You enthroned in heaven. Behold, as the eyes of servants are on the hands of their masters, as the eyes of a maid are on the hands of her mistress, so are our eyes on the Lord our God until He has mercy on us.

I have no repentance and I have no tears.* Wherefore I entreat You, O Christ God:* before the end is here turn me back and grant me compunction,* that I may be delivered from the torments of Hades.

Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us; for we have been filled with shame; our soul is all too full of the mockery of the rich, of the contempt of the proud.

О martyred passion-bearers,* citizens of heaven, who suffered on the earth,* you endured many torments.* By their supplications and entreaty, О Lord, preserve us all.

Glory… Now…

No one that flees to you, O most pure Virgin Theotokos,* departs from you ashamed;* for those that ask grace of you,* ever receives a gift for their profitable petition.

Troparia

Tone 8

Champion of orthodoxy, teacher of purity and of true worship,* the enlightener of the universe and the adornment of the hierarchs:* All-wise Father Leo, your teachings have gleamed with light upon all things.* Intercede before Christ our God to save our souls!

Glory… Now…

With hymns of praise let us, the faithful, exalt the Mother of God,* the solid foundation of our faith* and the precious gift to our souls:* Rejoice, O woman who contained in your womb the Rock of life!* Rejoice, O hope of the world and helper of those who are in trouble!* Rejoice, O bride and Virgin forever!
