At Psalm 140

If You mark iniquities, Lord, who can stand?* But with You forgiveness is that You may be revered.

He who in times past had been blind* confessed with his whole soul, mind, and tongue,* the One who had fashioned eyes for him out of spittle and clay,* granting him to see,* preaching that He is the Lord and Creator of all things,* who out of compassion for that which He had fashioned,* became a man, though He is God almighty.* The scribes could not bear to hear his words and see his zeal,* and in their jealousy they expelled him from the synagogue,* for the blindness which consumed their souls* surpassed that which once consumed his eyes.

I have waited for You as You have commanded; my soul patiently relies on Your promise,* for it has trusted in the Lord.

The man who had been blind* brought to them that have sight a trophy of excellence,* for he recognized his Maker and the Creator of all,* seeing Him who by His spittle granted him sight.* By means of this single deed, he knew the One who had enlightened him,* was the Son of God and the Lord of all the world.* But when they who were blinded by jealousy,* beheld Him they did not recognize Him,* though He had done many wondrous marvels,* which He wrought gloriously by a single word.

From the morning watch until night* let Israel trust in the Lord.

The truly blind scribes, looked upon the blind man with suspicion,* for they imagined that he had feigned not seeing,* in pretense showing the Saviour to have given him sight.* They willingly were blinded by the dark letter of the Law* wherein shines the truly resplendent Sun,* who has for my sake established the Sabbath rest,* having made bright the gloominess of the Law;* He took that light from them, and shed it upon those who were once blind.* and now beholding him,* they proclaim the light-bestower to all the world.

For with the Lord there is mercy, and with Him there is plentiful redemption;* and He shall redeem Israel from all its iniquities.

The most glorious Therapontus, illumined by divine acts,* was vouchsafed to behold the beauty of Christ with the eyes of his heart,* having pleased Him by his suffering.* Therefore, by grace he ever heals sufferings of soul and body* for those who have recourse to him with faith.

Praise the Lord, all the nations;* proclaim His glory, all you people.

As a well-spring of living water,* the all-rich Therapontus pours forth streams of healings* and utterly washes away the defilement of grievous ailments* from all who have recourse to him with faith.* By his entreaties, O Lord, grant to all great mercy.

Strong is the love of the Lord for us;* eternally will His truth endure.

The wondrous Therapontus, soaked in the dye of his blood,* fashioned a truly most splendid garment of sanctity;* and arraying himself magnificently therein,* he has entered the Holy of holies.* Through his supplications, O Lord, grant great mercy to all.

Tone 8, Glory… Now…

O Christ God, noetic Sun of Righteousness,* who by Your most pure touch bestowed a twofold enlightenment* upon him who was blind from his mother’s womb,* also illumine the eyes of our souls,* and show us to be sons of the day,* that we may cry out to You with faith:* Great and ineffable is Your compassion toward us,* O Lover of mankind glory be to You.

He who has granted Resurrection to mankind,* was led as a sheep to the slaughter;* the princes of Hades trembled before Him* and the gates of lamentations were lifted up;* for Christ the King of glory entered therein,* saying to those in bondage: “Come forth!”* and to those in darkness: “Reveal yourselves!”

I have lifted up my eyes to You enthroned in heaven. Behold, as the eyes of servants are on the hands of their masters, as the eyes of a maid are on the hands of her mistress, so are our eyes on the Lord our God until He has mercy on us.

O Lord, though I am struck with the fear of You,* I cease not from doing evil.* What man under judgment fears not the judge?* Or who wishing to be healed provokes the physician to anger as I do?* O longsuffering Lord, take pity on my infirmity* and have mercy on me.

Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us; for we have been filled with shame; our soul is all too full of the mockery of the rich, of the contempt of the proud.

Armed with the shield of faith,* and strengthened with the sign of the Cross,* Your Saints, O Lord, of their own accord went forth courageously to torments* and destroyed the deception and audacity of the devil.* Since You are the almighty God, by their intercessions,* send down peace upon the world, and great mercy to our souls.

O Christ God, who by Your merciful compassion became incarnate,* with Your fingers which has fashioned all things* You touched clay to the eyes of him who from the womb was bereft of sight* and thereby deemed him worthy of divine brilliance by Your ineffable compassion.* And now, O Bestower of light,* illumine also the senses of our souls,* since You alone are the bountiful Bestower of good gifts.

Having shared the way of life of the apostles,* and having become a successor to their thrones,* labouring you found the divinely inspired way to contemplation.* Therefore, forthrightly ministering the word of truth,* you shed your blood for the faith, O hieromartyr, Therapontus.* Intercede with Christ our God for the salvation of our souls.

Let us the faithful acclaim and worship the Word,* co-eternal with the Father and the Spirit,* and born of the Virgin for our salvation.* For He willed to be lifted up on the cross in the flesh, to suffer death* and to raise the dead by His glorious Resurrection.

 

DIVINE LITURGY ON TUESDAY MORNING

After the priest has exclaimed, Blessed be the Kingdom… and the people have responded, Amen, the clergy sing the Paschal Troparion once and the people repeat it. Then, the clergy sing the first half, and the people conclude it.
